Established by independent travel agents for benefit of world travel agencies, the World Association of Travel Agencies is now recognized as a well-respected body in the travel industry, comprised of more than 100 members from nearly 50 countries, all of them enjoying unique benefits and privileges.
The basic idea of WATA is to bring local travel agencies into the international network, thus providing each of its members with all advantages and facilities of being associated with an international body. The Association's statutes ensure that all members of WATA are capable of competing successfully with large corporations in the travel industry. The adherence to these statutes and the respect of the duties outlined in the WATA Code of Conducts, have contributed much to the Association's reputation fro dedicated services and total reliability.
To cover its administrative needs, WATA maintains a permanent secretariat, located in Gland, Switzerland. The organization's headquarters offer assistance, information, management of business development and promotional actions for each of its members. Today the goals of the Association are: to provide a global access to the new technologies; to increase business for its members; to increase visibility of members' products; to keep pace with the market trends; to remain close to customers; to maintain a market strength; and to generate new partnerships, like those already established with MOA and ASI.
WATA membership is open to any travel agency that has a sound financial structure, maintains an excellent reputation in the local community and adheres to the highest level of professional ethics, expected in the industry. Being a member of the Association, you become a part of a global network of tour companies and travel agencies with members in all major tourism areas, thus supplying your customers with local service and knowledge worldwide. In addition, it gives exposure on Internet in WATA web site, which is a reference site for the global travel.
The Association's members are also provided with a unique opportunity to exchange experience, ideas and creativity in the WATA General Assembly, staff meetings and meetings running during International Trade Fairs. This offers a more beneficial networking through the communications between WATA members and between the members and WATA headquarters.
The World Association of Travel Agencies also offers close co-operation with other trade organizations, ensuring leading position in such ever changing issues as technology, globalization and market appearance. Offered by WATA are business relationships that last a lifetime. The Association gives its name to each of its members as a powerful tool for promoting their businesses.
In turn, WATA members offer independent advice to satisfy requirements of their consumers; the knowledge of their destination; personalization and coordination of services; and financial and moral consciousness. The Association defines a standard of service that is already part of Code of Conduct for its members.
