Baby oil is undoubtly necessary - it moisturizes baby's delicate skin and helps protect from dryness. Pure mineral forms of practically all baby oils is a silky barrier to help prevent excess moisture loss. Baby oil is always used for infant massage and parent-baby bonding : firm but gentle stroking all over baby, massage a small amount of baby oil into child`s skin. Baby oil is irreplaceable for infant massage, 15 minutes a day of which may help baby fall asleep faster. Baby oil also promotes healthy weight gain and increase baby's alertness.
A very important and useful thing for the skin of both babies and their children, indeed. But only when it is not used for sun bathing, otherwise baby oil turns to be a harmful substance causing serious skin damages.
In early 50s baby oil considered effective on adult skin of sun - worshippers. There is a strong-living myth that baby oil helps protect you from the sun. In fact, Baby oil actually enhances the damaging effect of the sun's ultraviolet rays. Under the influence of sunlight, baby oil begins hitting up aggravating harmful effect of UV rays. All this causes blistering sunburns on your skin and as a result the probability to "get" skin cancer increases in many times! But teenage girls still continue to spend time in the sun, applying baby oil, to achieve what they think is an attractive tan. In reality, tanning is the body's way of letting you know that damage is occurring. Sun protection is extremely essential as long as you are going out into the sun. Otherwise you will suffer from the consequences of sun damage arising from continuous exposure to the sun. If you believe that some damage has already been done, first of all try to seek immediate medical attention. If you receive skin or eye damage from the sun or if you experience an allergic reaction to the sun visit a doctor immediately. Then see your dermatologist or personal physician if you develop an unusual mole, a scaly patch or a sore that doesn't heal. Always wear a broad spectrum sunscreen with Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 15 or more, which will block both UVA and UVB when outdoors and reapply it according to manufacturer's directions. Doctors can help you to reverse some of the sun damage but the most effective remedy is actually sun prevention. Recent studies suggest that UV-A rays cause even more sun damage because they penetrate deeper into the dermis.
So you should protect your skin , but NEVER use baby oil (or any other kind of oil) for these purposes. The most optimum sun protection is a gel or a lotion- their texture is light and easy to absorb. Due to this they cannot be washed away, though you should grease it more frequent. And the best way to protect yourself is to avoid direct sun rays and dose your sun bathing -time. Then you will please people with even strong tan and preserve your skin healthy for years.
