A Visit to the Lawrence Bay Resort - An Anglers' Paradise

Added: 03/30/2006

Whenever you want to experience the greatest fishing adventure in your life, consider Lawrence Bay Resort, nestled among the tall pines along the shores of Reindeer Lake - one of the most beautiful lakes in Saskatchewan, known for its fantastic fresh water walleye, lake trout and northern pike fishing. The resort's floatplanes, fishing boats and Cree Indian fishing guides, all of them being top notch, combined with natural beauty of Reindeer Lake create this fantastic destination.

Boasting an average depth of more than 100 ft, the 180-mile long and 60-mile wide Reindeer Lake is home to some of the best northern pike, trophy lake trout, walleye and arctic grayling in Canada. The lake itself has thousands of islands that along with the mainland create a great number of bays, harboring huge fish. As of 2000 visitors caught the largest amount of northern pike, with 75% of visitors enjoying an average catch of 18-35 lb. fish.

Lawrence Bay Resort also offers great walleye fishing, which can be enjoyed on Reindeer and some of the day lakes easily accessible by float planes. It is a common experience to catch nearly 150 walleyes per boat. The average size of the walleyes in this area ranges from 2 to 6 lb. In addition to northern pike and walleye, visitors can also experience great lake trout fishing and challenge this fighting fish.

The lake trout averages in size from 4-18 lb, while some can reach 20-30 lb. Depending on the season you choose for your vacation at Lawrence Bay Resort, the lake trout can be fished at depths as deep as 70 feet and as shallow as 10 feet. Available at the lake is also arctic grayling, simply referred to as the "sailfish of the north" and considered by many a great trophy because of its beautiful color. Lawrence Bay Lodge has everything to make your fishing vacation exciting and memorable, from great Cree Indian fishing guides and fishing boats to first class equipment. The resort also features two floatplanes: a Beaver and a Cessna, used for the modern outpost camps. Recently 40 horsepower Mercury motors and 18 transom boats have been added to the resort's facilities.

With such an array of fishing opportunities, Lawrence Bay Resort on Reindeer Lake has much to offer to each fisher to create memories that will last a lifetime. In addition to being a premier fishing destination, the lodge is also renowned for its moose hunting, with some 90% of hunters spending their vacation here, taking a bull moose. Currently the resort features a large hunting area, top quality guides and access to remote lakes by floatplanes. Hunters may either return to the lodge at night, or stay out overnight at a tent camp.

After successful hunting, visitors are offered extra fishing guide with local flying, moose license and food included. While planning your trip, don't forget to bring gear, including good sleeping bag, orange or white outer suit, warm clothes and flashlight.

At Lawrence Bay Resort visitors are offered accommodations that are fully modern, with auto-flush toilets and showers in every cabin. All cabins are built out of natural logs, have electricity, hot and cold running water and a heating stove, and are cleaned daily by the resort's friendly staff. The meals served here are great, including the great shore lunch, and breakfast and dinner at the main lodge. The lodge has a big tackle counter, which is usually a busy place in the evenings.

After the evening meal visitors are offered to take a boat out by themselves and enjoy a trip on Reindeer Lake. Alternatively, you can relax in your cabin or around the lodge plan the next day of your fishing vacation.
