If you are fond of cruising yachts (you run them, you're a passenger or just read about them and watch TV programs) you have definitely heard about Vilm cruising yachts. I think this information will be interesting for, otherwise you are a great expert of Vilm cruising yachts. I would say that this article is rather for beginners.

Vilm cruising yachts are a perfect combination of superbly built and low-maintenance fiberglass on the outside and beautiful handcrafted mahogany inside. Every detail of these fine yachts shows the builders' many years of sailing experience. The cockpit is deep and offers unequalled, comfortable seating with very high backrests. The fiberglass dog house offers protection from the elements.

All Vilm hulls and decks are laid up with isophtalic-acid resin and gelcoat. This special resin is considerably more expensive than ordinary boat building resins (and therefore rarely used); however, it absorbs very little moisture. Combined with a special method of exclusively hand-laying selected glass roving, matting and bi-axial glass provides a far stronger and extremely durable hull and deck. Common problems, such as blistering, delaminating and cracking are un-heard of in Vilm cruising yachts.

Safety and comfort were the main objectives in the design of Vilm cruising yachts. One has only to look how the stanchions are fastened to the hull, how bow and stern pulpit are designed or check the stainless steel bow fitting, the extra strong cleats, or the rig, and last but not least, the beautiful hand-crafted mahogany interior, to recognize the quality details that set the Vilm so far apart of any other yacht in this size range.

If you want to look closer at some of the modern Vilm cruising yachts, I am ready to offerr for your consideration Vilms 116. Vilm 116s are available for inspection in North Carolina and in California. They are built by Bootsbau Rügen in Germany and imported by International Yachting Center in Columbia, North Carolina. Vilm 116 has the nicest interior: You have the sense of a really brilliant use of space and design and volume when you are there.

The arrangement plan looks austere by today's benchmarks, almost as though the draftsman dispensed with his curves once he'd completed the hull. Save for the rounded corners to soften contact with human flesh, boat furniture is most practical when it's made up of straight lines and flat surfaces.

A couple would have lots of living space on this boat. The forward cabin has a large V-berth plus a couple of small hanging lockers. There's not much room for milling about even with the between-berth filler removed, but it's a perfectly adequate sleeping cabin. There's lots of milling-about room in the saloon, which could comfortably seat six for dinner. Four lingering guests can flop two in the saloon and two aft, all in single berths. In fact, between the aft cabin and the saloon, the Vilm 116 boasts four sea berths. To those, add in star-gazing weather the cockpit seats.

Fine woodworking is everywhere in the Vilm, and not just where it's visible but also behind the perfectly matched veneer fronts and solid stiles of the cabinets. You will appreciate the rich mahogany and forest-green upholstery created a cozy ambience belowdecks. The boat breathes through an elaborate arrangement of openings discreetly let into all the cabinets to allow air to circulate in and behind the joiner work. Storage under the saloon settees is in drawers, with access also provided via lift-out openings under the cushions. Every floorboard lifts out for access to the bilge, even where it's too shallow to use as storage space.
