Apple specializes in Hawaii, Mexico, and Caribbean resorts. Families will find many popular all-inclusives with kids programs in Mexico and the Caribbean. In Hawaii, some beautiful resorts offer kids programs; but all-inclusive pricing isn't in the scene in the Aloha State.
All-inclusive resorts - which one is right for your family? Mexico and Caribbean vacations are especially popular with families because of the fun and features of all-inclusive resorts in these areas, which typically offer: beach and watersports, extravagant pools, kids' programs and family activities, meal-time convenience and drinks on tap, grown-up pampering, spa, dining, etc.
But with so many all-inclusive resorts, in so many destinations- how can you choose the right one? It ain't easy; and - giving the dollar cost, plus emotional investment - the stakes are high.
Most "all-inclusive vacations" include almost-but-not- quite-everything: that is, all meals and snacks, drinks, kids' programs, certain watersports and other activities.
Note that generally, "non-motorized watersports" are included: kayaks, windsurfers, aquak-trikes, etc., while "motorized" ones cost. Snorkeling gear is often free, but perhaps only for an hour of use. Snorkeling boat-trips generally cost extra. Scuba is generally extra. Spas are always extra. Off-property outings are extra, though a shuttle bus to a nearby town may be free. Some non-all-inclusives offer plans that include meals and/or activities. Tipping, by the way, is generally an official no-no, but at some properties is common enough.
Apple all-inclusive resorts as a rule offer kids programs - many resorts have a basic kids' club for ages from four to 12. Others go all out, with separate programs for 4 or 5 age divisions. Teens are a difficult age to please, but some properties try hard, with teen activities, and teen coordinators. Meanwhile, more and more AI's offer infant care.
What about family activities? Bingo, scavenger hunts, beach parties are popular. Most places offer nightly entertainment too, ranging from cute-but-amateurish to professional caliber. Many resorts have weekly theme nights. Club Med Punta Cana stands out with its weekly kids' club show staged professionally, in a real theatre.
What else? Meal-time convenience: multiple restaurants, including casual poolside snacks. Buffets feed kids quickly with no waiting; many buffets have a kids' section. Most resorts have a la carte restaurants also, sometimes adults-only.
