Ancient Pythagorion is on the island of Samos

Located in the East Aegean Sea right across the shores of Asia Minor, Samos is an island with unique and natural beauties. Pythagorion is the most significant tourist center on the southern side of the island. It is a beautiful and picturesque city that is loaded with ancient history along with tourist facilities and is located right next to the airport.

Samos is a relatively large island. It is an island with green mountains, endless vineyards that produce the famous Samiotiko wine, and lacy shores. It is a hilly island 475 square kilometers at its fullest extension. It has two mountains one of which is the wild and rocky Kerki that is 1443 meters high and the verdant Ambelos or Karvouni at 1160 meters high. Samos is an island with an age long history. According to mythology, in thus Aegean island on the banks of the river Imvrassos, the goddess Hera was born. Today, at this location, visitors can see the remains of a temple that was dedicated to her. It is an imposing building that is the most important and biggest building of its time. One of the most famous Greek philosophers and mathematicians named Pythagoras lived on the island of Samos.

The astronomer named Aristarchos and the philosopher Epikouros lived in this Aegean island. Samos was also an important island in ancient times because it was a rich island that traded with the rest of Greece which were the Phoenicians and the Persians. A bus ride from Samos is the Ancient Pythagorion which is the former capital of the island was probably unrecognizable to the famous mathematician Pythagoras from its heyday in sixth century BC. Ancient Pythagorion has a very interesting archeological collection. Visitors can see many Greek and Roman statues, works of Aiakes, Traianus, and other famous artists of the time. There are also Ionic tombstones and columns which are fine examples of ancient sculptures.

Inhabited by 1500 people, Pythagorion is located on the eastern side of the Tigari Bay. Built on the ruins of the city of Samos during about the time of Polycrates, Ancient Pythagorion condenses more than 26 centuries of Greek history. It is a very beautiful port and it is the main tourist resort on the island. Many yachts and sailing boats moor here in the large and picturesque harbor. From there, it is also possible to travel by boat to several Aegean islands. The port of Ancient Pythagorion was the first artificial port in the Mediterranean Sea.  that was built on the Polycrates' breakwaters which were constructed of rough rocks. Among these rough rocks some ancient vases were found. This port served the Greeks during the Hellenistic period for 300 BC to the seventh century AD.

The town used to be known as Tigani because of its shape but later it was named after the mathematician Pythagoras. The harbor with its coffee shops, taverns, and tourist shops and tables set out under the trees on one side, and its fishermen, canoes, and yachts on the other, it could be described as a quintessential scene on a Greek island.

Samos's tourists' infrastructures truly satisfy all of the demands of people. There are modern Samos hotels that are comfortable and luxurious in places such as Vathi, Kokkari, and Kasrlovasi. The wonderful sandy beaches are all over the islands and probably give you the best conditions to have a wonderful holiday. Some entertainment options vary.
