"Night candle" - Fiesta Flambeau night parade takes place during the last week-end of Saint Antonio holiday which lasts during 10 days - Fiesta San Antonio is usually celebrating in April in San Antonio city of Texas State.
This parade or procession is called "people's parade" and such title has all grounds as far as more than 500000 persons are coming every year to look through this holiday and especially illuminated procession which rout is 2.6 mile length through picturesque center of San Antonio city. 1.5 million members of the TV audience can be freely added to this number.
The procession is followed by music, dancing, decorated platforms, parade of Kings and Queens and many, many other peculiarities! The most attractive part of the parade is after sunset. The word "Flambeau" is of French origin and is interpreted as candelabrum or burning flame. The torchlight procession participants used both and the audience - flash-lights which made an impression that fresh evening of Texas is penetrated by the light of myriad of starts.
San Antonio hotels are overcrowded at this time by numerous visitors and travelers coming here not only from the states but from the other countries. Today the procession is recognized as the biggest night illuminated parade in America. It is hard to imagine that in 1948 when the idea to hold a night torchlight procession, came to mind to Reynolds Andricks, engineer, one of the Holidays Association members, only a few people in san Antonio took the idea serious. The organizers paid attention that armed forces which made a biggest part of San Antonio population did not participate at Fiesta Flambeau and they have appealed to the fleet commander as well as to all the commanders of the air force aircraft depots. The military men were delighted with the idea, moreover Andricks proposed to each depot to pick up its own Queen who would be at the head of the procession and who would embellish the group of participants carrying the flames. In order to provide more effective lighting of the procession, signal rockets were used, and musicians have decorated the instruments by flash-lights.
Today each aircraft deport picks up its representatives - a man and a woman known as "Military messengers".
Fiesta Flambeau Night Parade as a rule is organized at the end of April within the frame of 10-days annual fiesta holiday in San Antonio.
The holiday includes more than 100 different cultural, music, sport and entertaining doings - this is the biggest holiday in Texas.
About 50 platforms with flowers, more than 40 orchestra, musicians, dancers, clowns fill up the streets of San Antonio and near San Antonio hotels areas every year. San Antonio hotels are not very expensive, the prices for booking start from 50 USD per night.
