During the medieval period, Dublin possessed the highest accumulation of castles in Ireland. They served as homes and mighty attack and defense strongholds. Unfortunately, many of them have not survived and the destruction is continuing. However, the castles that survived give a comprehensive impression of what the Dublin castles used to be - architectural masterpieces, unique to this country.

Although Dublin takes the first place for the number of castles in the country, there are not so many castle hotels. Due to many sieges and attacks of the city, the castles have been ruined, and unfortunately, continue disappearing, as they are not already available for the further reconstruction. However, not numerous castle hotels are magnificent samples of the ancient architecture and comfortable venues for visitors' stay.
