Abu-Dabi is the largest of the seven emirates that comprise the United Arab Emirates and is also the name of a city the Emirate that is the capital of the country, in north central UAE. Abu-dabi lies on a T-shaped island jutting into the Persian Gulf from the central western coast. Some parts of Abu-Dabi were settled as far back as the 3rd millennium BC . Fusion of the present , past and even future is presented by peaceful and harmonic coexistence of museums, mosques, boutiques and motley asian markets.
Modern Abu-dabi traces its origins to the rise of an important tribal confederation the Bani Yas in the late 18th century, who also assumed control of Dubai. Into the mid-20th century, the economy of Abu-Dabi continued to be sustained mainly by camel herding, production of dates and vegetables at the inland oases of Al Ain and Liwa, and fishing and pearl diving off the coast of Abu-dabi city, which was occupied mainly during the summer months. Most dwellings in Abu-Dabi city were, at this time constructed of palm fronds (barasti), with the better-off families occupying mud huts. The growth of the cultured pearl industry in the first half of the 20th century created hardship for residents of Abu-Dabi as pearls represented the largest export and main source of cash earnings. And even now you can see small vessels of pearl- divers, called 'dow'. Since the establishment of the city in 1760 the last three centuries it is governed by Al Khasimi dynasty, that is why many streets and landmarks bear name of this or that royal person. Nowadays, the city is densely built up by skyscrapers, the lowest being 40 floors (common 20 floor-buildings are not counted at all). These modern towers and golden ( in the literal meaning of the world) palaces dazzle you at the very moment you come here. Do not forget that you are in Asia though lots of Islamic mosques practically in each quarter of
Abu-dabi will not give you such an opportunity. The biggest Mosque, situated near the airport and seen from each point of Abu-Dabi is really a masterpiece combining traditions of past and technologies of the present. Hilton hotel, one of the biggest if not in the world, but in the emirates, indeed provides a wonderful opportunity of viewing the neighbouring area from its penthouse. Beautiful yachts in the bay are at your service and ready to take you away for a wild fishing. Really the water even in the Abu-Dabi city border is purely clear so that you can see golden fish just under your boat. This most refined and posh city in the world is an attraction itself, though is not a toursist centre. So that you can hardly find here extravagant or exotic entertainment, and nightlife is restricted to walking around green parks. And this green abundance of flowers and trees in the centre of desert strikes and makes you look at it with new eyes. Really, Abu-dabi is a most beautiful flower in the middle of the desert.
