Western wedding

Added: 01/13/2006

The great thing about Western weddings is that they are perfect for backyards, State parks, and other areas, otherwise not considered for a formal wedding.

Women’s western-wear depends on what kind of Western bride she wants to be. If the Old Wild West is the thing, a Victorian gown completed with a parasol and lace-up boots will fit. For a more modern approach, a denim skirt and white blouse with a wide lace collar will do the trick.
A Cowboy hat, decorated with a veil of fresh flowers, will add to the image. For men everything is more simple. Vests, bolo ties, cowboy boots and hats look great.

Hire a horse and a carriage instead of a limousine to take you and your guests to a barbecue with baked beans, potato salad, hickory chips and a spit for roasted meet. Icy-cold beer in big tubs will not look out of place.

Do not forget about country music! Whether you prefer the modern line dance or the rhythms of Western Swing, be sure the cowboy atmosphere is completed with a live band. The main thing at any wedding party is making fun. And how could that be achieved without music? There are plenty of beautiful country bands and singers to fulfill the duty. For song ideas check out the dreamy, romantic sounds of singers like Emmylou Harris, Alison Kraus, or other bluegrass (old or new) and its haunting melodies. For a more modern country sound, check out the make-you-swoon love ballads of Randy Travis, Mary Chapin Carpenter, and Lyle Lovett.

Let your guests feel the taste of the country. Ring “dinner bell” to make announcements of toasts, provide a hayride and teach line dancing before the party starts.

Consider the décor that suggests the Old West: hurricane lamps, skull heads, denim, tumbleweeds, wagon wheels, pottery jugs, cowboy boots and hats.

Dress your guests in Western skirts and lacy blouses, let the groomsmen wear Western vests and bolo ties. (But wait! How to distinguish the groom from all those Western henchmen? Make sure your honey is the one without a hat).

Also, to countrify your Western wedding ceremony, arrange a mini wagon filled with flowers and satin pillows. The bride and her father, riding a horse-drawn wagon with the groomsmen and bridesmaids, coming in one load, will add to the lively atmosphere of the country-side wedding.
