The first wedding anniversary is the paper one. The couple has managed to survive during the first year of their marriage! It is frequently celebrated with the couple eating a piece of their original wedding cake. The origin of this tiered wedding cake lies in Anglo-Saxon times. Generally this piece is frozen after the reception and saved for this occasion. Any piece will do, but usually the top tier is saved. There are some other traditions to celebrate the rest of wedding anniversaries, and it is up to the wife and the husband which to choose.
There are traditional types of wedding anniversary gifts for certain anniversaries. The wedding anniversary gift is supposed to be made of the material, which lies in the name of the wedding anniversary. People can explain the traditional wedding anniversary names only associatively, as their history goes deep into the years.
