Holiday gifts

Added: 09/12/2006

Why do people give gifts to each other? What is the tradition not only to congratulate the person, but also to present something to him/her like? Why are we sure to get holiday gift baskets at our Birthday and to make a collection of different holiday gifts during the New Year holidays? What are the standard or unique holiday gift ideas?

Holiday gifts are the form of advertence, taken as a matter of course both in our private and business life. Business holiday gift's purpose is a courtesy mark, demonstration of respect and good intentions, interest in future cooperation. The idea of the holiday gift in private life could be diversified or unique, and difficult to describe.

First of all, the purpose of the private gift depends on the holiday. Christmas? Valentine's Day? Anniversary? One should not forget that on high days and holidays (like Christmas) we often have an "exchange" gift, and he/she wouldn't look well to give a present less brilliant than the one received. Secondly, who is the presentee? Male or female? Old or young? Your friend, relative, or your love? In all these cases it is recommended to think a little or a lot, before buying a present or composing a holiday gift basket.

It is said we should give the thing, which we would like to have ourselves. Occasionally, it might lead us astray. If your admire Goethe, it does not mean that you should present a holiday gift basket with a complete edition of Goethe's works to you girl-friend. The next rule is very important - gifts would rather be selected for the person who will receive the gift, than for the one who presents it.

Thus, a task of gifts giving should be resolvable and pleasant. Here, as well as in other activities, one needs a little experience and a wish to do his/her best to see that holiday gift is accepted with gratitude and happiness.
