Being happy and single

Every cloud has a silver lining; you just have to learn how to spot it. Society places too much importance on finding a mate. No matter where you look, from fairy tales to magazines, you are always being told that you need a partner to be happy. And while being in a relationship does have its perks, there are numerous benefits to flying solo that are often disregarded.

The single life is swarming with liberties that you could not imagine. Here are some reasons why singles can still be happy. If you have just broken up with someone, don't rush into a new relationship. Take a break, look around, and savor the joys of being free.

1. You don't have to deal with another person's habits
You can sleep peacefully without your partner snoring and taking up all space in bed. You have no one to cook or pick up after but yourself. Award your patience with a well-deserved time off and enjoy serenity. You will miss it when you are in a relationship again.

2. You can be spontaneous
Being single gives you a chance to break the fetters of the everyday routine. Be daring while you can. Only singles can go on a trip with friends at the drop of a hat, or have the walls of their room repainted on the spur of the moment. Not only will you be doing something out of the ordinary, you can do it without double-checking with someone else first. This is the peak of singles' freedom.

3. You have more time to focus on your career
Life is a juggling act, in which you have to keep many elements aloft, carefully balancing each one. But if you let one drop, you can channel your forces to the remaining parts. In the absence of a relationship, as you'll be single and vigorous, you might devote time to you career. Nothing will stop you from working overtime or taking evening classes. Who knows, it might be your chance to get a promotion and take your professional life to the next level.

4. You can be your own boss
Relationships are synonymous with compromise. You eventually have to sacrifice something you really like - a soccer game, an outing with your friends, smoking, or eating oranges in bed - for the good of the partner. Take advantage of your single time to treat yourself a little more.

Being your own boss also means reporting to no one. You went to a strip club? You have been on a shopping spree and spent too much? Enjoy not having to find excuses for your actions.
