The Ferrari 360 Modena Proves The Sophistication Of The Ferrari Design Team

Added: 01/31/2006

The Ferrari 360 Spider was the Ferrari company's twentieth convertible sports car to hit the roads, and was so popular at its launch that the waiting list to purchase a new Spider was over a year long. However, when the Ferrari 360 Modena, which is the company's unique new reinterpretation of the classic v8 sports car, hit the road a year after the Spider was introduced, the equally attractive but far more sensible Modena started to turn heads away from the beautiful but impractical Spider. The differences between the two cars prove the versatility and sophistication of the Ferrari design team.

The Ferrari 360 Spider was the Ferrari company's twentieth convertible sports car to hit the roads. The Spider's release was very highly anticipated by Ferrari fans and by many car enthusiasts all over the world, and the car became so popular based on rumors and previews that at its launch, the waiting list for a new Ferrari 360 Spider was over a year long. However, the popularity and fame of the Ferrari 360 Spider were soon to be overtaken by the appearance of another car.

Of course, the only car that could trump a Ferrari in the marketplace was another model of Ferrari. When the Ferrari 360 Modena, which is the company's unique new reinterpretation of the classic v8 sports car, hit the road a year after the Ferrari 360 Spider was introduced, the equally attractive but far more practical Ferrari 360 Modena started to turn heads away from the beautiful but impractical Spider. Ferrari fans are well aware of the subtle rivalry between the Ferrari 360 Modena and the Ferrari 360 Spider, and it is a rare Ferrari enthusiast indeed who does not have his or her own very strong views on which car is a greater achievement in the field of advanced automotive design. In general, the Ferrari 360 Modena is seen as the better vehicle because it is easier to drive, more fuel efficient, and marginally safer. However, there are a few rugged individualists who still consider the Spider highly superior to the Ferrari 360 Modena, citing the Spider's elegance of line and overpowering aesthetic beauty as the causes for their ongoing devotion to the Spider.

There is a lot of tension between Ferrari fans on both sides of the Spider versus Modena debate, but one thing that Spider fans and fans of the Ferrari 360 Modena are sure to agree on is the fact that Ferrari can truly meet any consumer demand. The differences between the Spider and the Modena are proof of the versatility of Ferrari's design teams, and these two unique cars stand as testaments to the fact that Ferrari can seemingly create an outstanding car in any arena that it decides to pursue from exclusive high performance vehicles to drivable family cars or rugged trucks. It seems that Ferrari can in some ways do no wrong when it comes to creating automotive vehicles with the features and innovations that make them stand out from the pack as beautiful works of art. There are many Ferrari enthusiasts who believe that the beauty of a Ferrari car is equal to that of a great painting or sculpture.

The fact that the Ferrari 360 Modena overtook the Spider in popularity quite quickly and emphatically does not prove that the Modena is a superior car. Instead the popularity of the Ferrari 360 Modena tells us about the market forces and the consumer demand for a specific kind of vehicle at a particular moment in time.

Although it is still open for debate which car is a greater engineering and design achievement between the Modena and the Spider, both cars are solid proof that Ferrari is continually able to anticipate the needs of the people who drive exotic high-end sports cars like the Spider and the Modena.
