Elyse Sewell was a college graduate whose dream was to enter a medical school. Giselle Samson was a dancer with Latina roots. Shannon Niquette Stewart was the winner of All-American beauty. Robin Manning was a devoutly Christian. Kesse Wallace was the participant of the contest in spite of the fact that her parents did not approve of her model career. The first winner of the competition was Adrianne Curry.
The first episode was devoted to eight girls who were chosen at the semifinals and transported to New York. The first half of the competition the girls were to share an apartment. The two contestants were added to the group after they were selected at a special audition. After the initial weights of the contestants were recorded they were sent to their first photo shoot. It was a bikini shoot for the swimwear of J.Lo. The shoot was held on the top of one of Manhattan skyscrapers in rather a cool weather.
