Microwave hair removal device can be potentially dangerous

Added: 10/17/2005

There is plenty methods of hair removal. One of the latest achievements in this sector is a microwave hair removal device. And any clinic that offers microwave hair removal claims that it is safe and there are no complications entailed. But it is a new method, which has not been completely tested yet and there is no sufficient data confirming its safety. So, although it gives good results still it is not a 100% sure method.

Many different methods of hair removal are available these days. The variety is so extensive that it is really hard to make a choice. To make the right decision about what method is more suitable, you need to know more about all the available methods. There are two main types of hair removal. The first one includes such methods as shaving, waxing, cream depilatories and epilators. All these techniques give only temporary result, so after a while hair will start to grow again. That is because these methods remove hair from the surface of the skin. Depending on how it is done, the effect can vary from several hours to several weeks in duration. With shaving when hair is being cut the result will last only a day or so. When you perform waxing, hair is removed together with its root, so the effect is longer, for several days you can forget about your hair. But unlike shaving, waxing is a pretty painful procedure. You can lower painful sensations using an epilator. These devices work pretty similar to waxing, but treating just a single hair or only several hairs at a time is less painful than waxing. When depilatory cream is used hair is dissolved with some sort of chemical. Usually, it is not a painful procedure but as long as chemicals are used it can cause allergy and even chemical burns. The other sort of methods is those methods which give permanent result. These methods affect the hair follicle in different ways which allows lowering or even stopping hair growth. Electrolysis is one of these methods. It has been on the market for many years now and is being widely used these days. A hair follicle in this method is affected with electrical current (by means of a special electrode that is inserted into a follicle). This method was so popular that many medical equipment producers started to make home electrolysis hair removal devices. A laser hair removal is another method which has been known for a while. That method hair follicle is affected by the light of a particular wavelength. Light is absorbed by the follicle and is turned into thermal energy which kills the follicle. The light is absorbed only by hair, so unlike the electrolysis method there is no need to treat each follicle separately. Yet another way in which hair follicle is affected by heat is microwave hair removal device. Microwave hair removal device works like a microwave oven, it produces microwave radiation and this radiation forces molecules to vibrate which leads to heating. But the problem is that microwave hair removal device makes no difference between molecules of hair and molecules of tissues that surround it, microwave hair removal device heats everything. And even though each producer of devices for microwave hair removal claims that the method is safe, there are still many doubts about it. It is allowed to use this technique at hair removal centers, but its application to remove facial hair is still prohibited. This new method still needs testing. Because of its nature it can cause skin irritation and even serious burns that can retain for a very long time. So, if you want to try this method, do it very carefully.
