The popular films that we watch tend to be a reflection of what we want our
life to be like. We want our life to be full of risk, action and great deeds. And we hope for a happy ending where good prevails over evil. Like cinematic tough guys, the tough girls we see on the large and small screen pull in millions of fans. They are successful, rich, beautiful. Women want to be as fine, sporty and charming as tough girls like Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Garner. Men want to be as strong, clever and good-humored as tough guys like Sylvester Stallone and the Rock. But are all these people really as tough
and cool as they are on the video?
Jennifer Garner is a lady from West Virginia. Her mother was an English
teacher and her father was a chemical engineer. Jennifer was going to follow
in her father's footsteps and become chemist, but she got bitten by the acting bug in college and that changed her life forever.
Garner changed her major and after graduation, she went to New York where she worked at a restaurant. She was planning to enter Yale University and continue her studies, but her first acting assignment changed her career
path yet again. A small part in the film "Catch me if you can" led to other
roles, most notably in the film "Daredevil" and its spin-off. But it was the
primetime television series "Alias" that made Jennifer Garner a household
name.
She has since starred in other films, and her television series ended after
four popular seasons. In her spare time Jennifer likes to cook, to hike and
to work in the garden. Besides, she plays saxophone and is an experienced
ballet dancer.
One of her famous quotations is: "Happiness is your own responsibility." And this motto bore fruit: she was named the breakthrough star of 2001, the "Sexiest Woman Alive" in "People" magazine and she received $45 000.00 for each episode in the series "Alias".
To top it all off, she married actor Ben Affleck and they just had a baby
girl.
Elsewhere in the Pantheon of tough girls is none other than actress Angelina
Jolie. The daughter of actor Jon Voight, Angelina Jolie has acting in her blood. She graduated from the Theater Institute and for some time she worked as a model.
Jolie is a very well-paid actress. After the enormous success of her two "Tomb Raider" films, Angelina now commands a hefty $7 million dollars for
each movie. She has also adopted two Asian children and is looking to adopt
a third as well. Besides acting, she is an active representative of human rights. As a spokesperson for UNICEF - Jolie fights for child health care in Asian countries, and recently she has written a petition to the United States Congress asking for an increase in aide to help people in flooded New Orleans.
What is the secret of success of these two fine but tough girls? They work a
lot and go confidently about their business. Jennifer Garner was not afraid to give up science even if everyone thought acting was a crazy attempt, and she has only herself to thank for becoming a successful and independent actress.
Angelina Jolie was not afraid to take film roles that were "outside of the box". They are ready to take up risk and to challenge the film industry. But on the other hand, they are mothers. Intelligent, beautiful and the most sexiest women in the world. They are tough girls but they know how to be womanly as well.
