Wedding Rings: A Matter of Fashion and a Slave of Traditions

Added: 11/03/2005

Wedding rings have always been a matter of special attention. Their specific is that they are bought once for the rest of life and are worn every day. Besides they are the memory of a wedding day and a symbol of couple's love to each other. Thus choosing wedding rings is always an amazing step in wedding preparation process. Couples usually pay much attention to their wedding rings choice.

Wedding rings have been used by people for a very long time. In Egypt Pharaohs wore rings and presented it as gifts on weddings. They are believed to be the first to introduce a ring of circle form, which looked exactly like the rings we wear now. Egypt Pharaohs considered rings to have a magic power and be a symbol of eternal love due to their circle forms, which have no beginning and end. Ring had gradually become a symbol of marriage and love. Romans believed in ring's magic love-preserving power as well. They had a tradition to give a ring to a beloved person as a public offer to get married.

Groom is traditionally responsible for buying wedding rings. It is considered to be a man's obligation to choose, buy and give a ring to a bride. But in our days couples more often prefer to choose wedding rings together. After all, they both will wear the ring everyday during the rest of their life and each of them must feel comfortable in it and be pleased with its look. So choosing wedding ring is becoming a matter of both groom and bride. They go together to a jewelry shop and choose the wedding rings they like. Then a groom buys both rings and takes them with him. Bride's wedding ring is given to her only on the wedding day.

Materials which wedding rings may be made of are different now. Traditionally gold was the most preferred metal and was considered to be the only one to suit wedding ring. Only golden wedding rings were used for wedding. Now gold is still very popular, but it has now to compete with platinum which is gaining more and more popularity, especially among women. White gold is also a popular choice.

Wedding traditions prescribe that a wedding ring must not contain gemstones, as it is the prerogative of the engagement ring. In spite of this fact many modern couples prefer choosing wedding rings with precious stones. The most popular gems for wedding rings are diamonds. They may be enchased both into groom's and bride's ring. Still it is desirable that the size of a gem stone in the wedding ring was not bigger than the size of a jewel in the engagement ring.

When choosing a wedding ring many factors must be taken into account. Since wedding rings are the things which groom and wife will wear constantly, lifestyle must be considered. It must suit your dressing style and your engagement ring style, if you are going to continue wearing it. If you work with your hands, wedding ring must be made of more firm material than a pure gold, because the metal is quite soft and may be damaged when you working. Wedding ring must also be the thing you like very much. Be very attentive if you want to buy a top-fashioned ring. It may go out of fashion some day.

It is also very important to buy wedding rings in a jewelry shop, which you are confident in. A jeweler's good name is your guarantee that wedding rings will really serve you for all your life.

Wedding rings will be the symbol of your love and they must be full of positive energy, so when buying wedding rings do not argue or be upset or irritated with anything. Just think about your feeling to each other and whisper "I love you".
