The earliest known cosmetics come from the 1st Dynasty of Egypt (about 3100-2907 BC). Tombs of this era have yielded unguent jars, and from remains of later periods it is evident that the unguents were scented. Such preparations, as well as perfumed body care oils, were extensively used by both men and women to keep the skin supple and unwrinkled in the dry heat of Egypt. Egyptian women also developed the art of decorating the eyes by applying dark green colour to the lower lid and by blackening the lashes and the upper lid with kohl, a preparation made from antimony or soot. It is likely that the Jews adopted the use of cosmetics from the Egyptians, since references to face painting appear in the Old Testament. A large variety of cosmetics is generally available today. Body care oils, cold cream which is an emulsion of various oils and waxes and water; these are employed to cleanse and soften the skin. Various purpose-made moisturizers and cleansers are also available. Face powder and dusting powder, based on talcum (powdered magnesium silicate) and zinc oxide, are used to dry and give the skin a satin-like texture. Lip colour, either applied directly as a lipstick or brushed on to the lips, is made of cocoa butter or lanolin, and is manufactured in an endless variety of shades, as are rouges, mixtures of red pigments and starch or finely powdered clay. Bath salts and other bath preparations combine water-softening agents such as sodium carbonate or borax with perfume. Bath oils, including rose hip oil, hemp oil are also a popular skin-softening and perfuming aid. Nail polishes are lacquers or plastics available in many colours. Hair lotions and sprays are used to condition the hair, keep it in place, or make it glossy. People were using different herbs for a very long time and nowdays they turn again to Mother Nature. Cosmetics industry has turned to natural products too, offering natural body care oils, rose hip oil, hemp oil and lotions. The variety of presently produced body care oils is already impressive and so you have a choice. One of the widely used products in a sector of natural body care oils is hemp oil. Its production is relatively cheap or at least it is much cheaper than production of such things as rose hip oil. So, the lower price allowed to use different hemp products for natural body care and has stimulated further development of remedies, made from hemp. Nowadays you can meet natural body care producers that are oriented especially on hemp products. One of such companies is "Merry Hempsters". They can offer hemp oil itself and a huge variety of different shampoos, soaps, lotions and balms, made from hemp. But much scarecer products, like rose hip oil, are also represented in the modern market. Ancient Incas used different preparations that included rose hip oil. They drank tea, made of rose hips, and applied rose hip oil for healing purposes. It is more expensive, so the number of rose hip oil manufacturers is not that great as with hemp products. Wonderful moisturizing creams and lotions are made of this oil. But rose hip oil issued not only as cosmetic. It has wonderful medical effects. Because of its wonderful qualities rose hip oil is a great healing agent for scars of different origin. With it not only acne scars but also pretty serious old scars and eczemas can be treated. Many other wonderful natural alternatives for cosmetics and body care products that modern industry offers can be found in the market. Luckily, the variety of such products is increasing every day.
