The Rise and Fall and Rise of European Boy Bands

European boy bands have long suffered the stereotype of being pretty to look at but short on talent. Kind of like European girl bands. Just to prove the critics wrong, 5ive and Boyzone are one of the most popular European boy bands. These two bands enjoyed international success worldwide mostly in the United Kingdom, Europe and Australia. At this site you will find much interesting about European boy bands such as 5ive and Boyzone, for example their biography and discography.

The British boy band 5ive, or Five, was formed in 1997 as a result of a singer's contest in which more than three thousand participants were eliminated. By the end of the contest fourteen participants left and five of them were selected for a new boy band. The hosts of the contest were Bob and Chris Herbert who had launched the very successful project "Spice Girls" some time earlier.

They decided it was the time for a boy band and it could have been successful. After the band had been arranged 5ive started working over their first single. In 1997, 5ive releases the hit "Slam Dunk (Da Funk)". During its existence 5ive releases many more hit singles and three albums. Their songs often hit number one in British charts and in the United States. Sales of their albums amounted to nearly twenty million copies worldwide.

In the United States 5ive was successful with its single "When The Lights Go Out". Here are the members: Scott Robinson, Ritchie Neville, Abs Breen, Jason 'J' Brown and Sean Conlon. However, in 2001 the breakup took place just after they released the third album titled "Kingsize". Later on they released their greatest hits. Abs Breen decided to continue his career as a solo singer releasing the album "Abstract Theory" in 2003. 5ive was one of the most popular European boy bands.

Boyzone was one of popular European boy bands in the nineties. This Irish band was formed in 1993. For the first time they featured in the Late Late Show on Irish Television with their dance routine. Boyzone was led by managers Louis Walsh and Mark Plunkett who made the band one of the most popular European boy bands ever. Boyzone hit tops of European charts ten times with their singles and albums. As a matter of fact, Boyzone`s albums were covers of older hit songs and for this reason they reached tops quite often.

Boyzone made an unsuccessful attempt to break into the American music market by releasing an English-Spanish version of their song titled "Mystical Experience" but failed to succeed. Their success in Europe was major but in 2000 they broke up. The members were Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham, Ronan Keating, Shane Lynch and Stephen Gately. Ronan Keating continued his singer`s career and now he is one of the most popular Irish pop stars.

After the breakup there were rumors about possible reunion of Boyzone but Ronan Keating dashed Boyzone comeback by posting an interview on his website. He said, ?All guys remain good friends but with my new album I have no time and plans to get back together with other guys so far?. It is unlikely to happen since Ronan is working hard on his new album coming out soon. Ronan's career was developing rapidly and still he is one of the most popular Irish pop singers. Ronan Keating presented the Eurovision Song Contest in 1997. Next several years he featured in the MTV Europe Music Awards.
