The Miss Hong Kong is a very popular pageant. The Miss Hong Kong rules suggest the presence of representatives of different countries. We would like to tell you about one of the most well-known pageants in the world, the Miss Hong Kong. This article is devoted to the Miss Hong Kong pageant which was held in August, 2002. The Miss Hong Kong was held at the Hung Coliseum. The audience was greatly surprised when Tiffany Lam Man-Lee who came from San Francisco was crowned as Miss Hong Kong. It seemed that the girl appeared from nowhere to win the contest. Her competitors were Cerina Da Graca and Gisela Yu Si-Wan. When the girl was asked to comment on her victory she told that she was greatly surprised with it. She said she had no chances to win. She was eager to celebrate the victory with her family. She was thankful to her mother who came twice to Hong Kong from America in order to support her daughter, to cook soup for her.
Lam is 5 feet 5 inches high. She is still a student. The girl won not only the Miss Hong Kong but also such pageants as the "Miss Beauty for a New Age" and the "Miss International Congeniality" prizes.
The second place of the Miss Hong Kong pageant was won by Victoria Jolly. She is English. Her age was 20 years. The girl was also a student. She was highly regarded during the contest. One of the judges of the contest told about Victoria that she had a youth feel about which was unbeatable. When the girl was asked about her feelings concerning being the runner-up, the girl answered that she was happy. She was sure she wouldn't even get to the top three. So Victoria was very surprised with her success. The only thing that made her disappointed was the fact that her close friend Cerina Da Graca had not won anything.
According to the Miss Hong Kong rules there was a second runner-up. It was Cathy Wu Ka-Wai. The crowd was shocked when the girl was announced as the second runner-up. When one of the jury members was asked why they chose Wu among a number of the favorites, he answered that she impressed them during the swimsuit competition. But the most important thing that impressed the jury was the way the girl behaved. He said she was very composed and cool during the interview.
It is necessary to mention about Cerina Da Graca who seemed to be the favorite who would win the crown at the Miss Hong Kong. A good indicator of her victory at the final was that she had won the Miss Photogenic prize during the Semi-finals. When the girl was asked whether she was disappointed with her failure, she said that no disappointment was in her soul. The girl added that it was a very good life experience for her.
After the contest Chiu Nga-Chi, a retired actress, who was a member of the jury at the contest, was asked why Cerina da Graca had been shut out of the top three. The woman answered that the difference between losing scores and winning scores was really very small. And the girl lost with a razor-thin margin. The actress also added that very often it is rather difficult to predict things like that.
The Miss Hong Kong history as well as the history of other pageants has a number of examples which are similar to the given one. Very often it happens that preferences of the audience does not coincide with the one of the jury.
