The messenger bag review tells that the use of this kind of bags was started by telephone linemen who used the bags while climbing upon telephone stations. Soon the bags, however, moved to the sphere of bicycle messengers. Since that time there have been several messenger bag brands who have tried to satisfy the needs of the bicycle messengers all over the world. De Martini is one of the first and one of the most successful manufacturers in this sphere.
While giving a messenger bag review, it is necessary to say that a messenger bag review is all about a shoulder bag with a single strap. It is used by messengers. To be honest there is nothing new about the item. The design of messenger bags does not change. It is the same with Pony Express, running messengers in early civilizations, postmen and bicycle messengers.
The messenger bag review tells that it has been invented in the 1950s. At that time it was produced for telephone linemen. The linemen needed a bag which they could use while climbing telephone towers. So the design was perfect for this purpose. Soon the bags appeared with bicycle messenger companies of New York City. They even chose a special color which would differ from other messenger bag types. In the 1980s the bags began to spread beyond New York City.
The messenger bag review tells that Manhattan Portage is a company which began the production of the bags in the 1980s. Now the messenger bags that are designed by this company can't be called unique. Their design is similar to the design of bags of other companies, especially of those by De Martini. The company says that it uses Delrin buckles but not metal loops to close the flap of the bag; and Cordura instead of canvas duck for the exterior material. The same claims were made by another company called Zo Bags from San Francisco. The company was started in 1984 and again influenced by De Martini. Nevertheless, the company can boast of the invention of a one-piece construction, the design with three panels and the waist strap.
Courierware from Boston is another representative in line of messenger bag brands represented by the messenger bag review. It started producing the bags in 1985 but it never gained that the level of popularity achieved by most other companies that appeared in the 1980s.
The third generation of messenger bags was introduced by the appearance of such companies as Timbuk2 in San Francisco in 1989 and Pac Designs in Toronto. It is possible to say that the companies were inspired by the samples of De Martini filtered through the production of Zo Bags, Courierware and Manhattan Portage.
Pac was aimed at the production of big messenger bags with shoulder traps.
At the beginning of the 1990s such companies as Works from Portsmouth, Push from Toronto, Chrome from Denver and Roach from Vancouver appeared. As for the latter manufacturer, it can be called one of the first who introduced a two-strap bag of backpack style. At that time a lot of producing companies appeared all over the world: in North America, Australia, Japan and Europe. All of them worked hard in order to satisfy various demands of bicycle messengers from different parts of the world.
Frank De Martini, the first manufacturer of messenger bags died in early 2000. Nevertheless his bags are still popular. The employee who bought the company just before the death of De Martine continues the production of the same pattern. The question is whether Frank De Martini knew about the significance of his invention 50 years ago.
