The original contrast to romantic style, the style of baroque, rococo and the classical style in an interior is minimalism movement. According to the opinion of some designers and researchers in the history of culture, minimalism movement is original transformation of east culture and philosophy.

One of the main aspects of eastern philosophy is the original household ascetics. A minimum of things, of furniture and curtains. For this reason, the basis of minimalism movement can become the motto followers of eastern philosophy of the Zen-Buddhism: "the less a human requires of comfort, the richer his private world is". Minimalism movement is characterized by presence of enough big and open spaces, precise lines, minimum number of colors and shapes, clean vertical and horisontal surfaces, and a full absence of decorative elements in an interior.

The creation of a project in the style of minimalism assumes the presence of a big area. The small premise, executed in style of minimalism, will look empty and uncomfortable. The design of an interior in style of minimalism assumes a constrained color scale of walls and furniture, without bright color spots and semitones. The interior is precisely divided into functional zones.

All communication details, home appliances or complex engineering designs are carefully latent under wall-mounted panels, floors, sliding screens or hinged ceilings. In this premise there should be a minimum quantity of furniture. All furniture should have precise lines and equal color scale. The basic requirement showed to furniture in style of minimalism is functionality and stylishness.

Minimalism movement means not only minimum quantity of furniture, but also a near- full absence of items and subjects of use in an interior. All items like linen and subjects of use should be placed in special wardrobe rooms. In the wardrobe rooms all space should be used for maximum closure. The built-in cases, spacious niches and pantries are intended specially for storage of items and subjects of use. Many designers consider that minimalism movement is the most rational way to use design for the interior of a kitchen, bathroom or drawing room. However, in recent years the style of minimalism has been frequently applied to the design of a bedroom. In this case it is recommended to use an adjacent room as a wardrobe.

Minimalism is rather ascetic style, therefore it is recommended to be used in office premises or shops with the big trading areas. However, design of a domestic interior in the style of minimalism assumes the presence of a special attitude and a style of life of the house owner. It is not recommended to use this style for the design of a house in which there are small children.
