The statistics shows that one of the most favorite children toys is teddy bear. Today teddy bear production is famous as huge industry that is presented in all world markets. The history says that from the beginning the popularity of this toy was connected with American cartoon named ?Drawing the line of Mississippi? by Clifford Berryman. The plot of the cartoon is concentrated in President Roosevelt's refusing to kill little bear. They say it happened while Theodore Roosevelt's traveling to Mississippi for settling the dispute between two states about the border.
The cartoon was born in 1902 and caused unbelievable sensation. Many companies started the action of bears production. It was Rose Michtom's company that gave a new nick to the bear named it ?Teddy's Bear?. The first example of Teddy's Bear was placed on the window of confectionary of this company. The same sample was standing in its four paws and looked not fierce as its previous ?ancestor? but very friendly and ?sweet?. It resembled the bear from Berryman's cartoon. So nice, innocent and upright, it made a hit and boom within different buying public. The Michtoms? company certainly was not ready to such great demand so it had to tend to help of Butler Brother Co that became the way to the first teddy bear production corporation in the USA.
The story of toy-bear in Germany has its own line. It started in 1904 when the nephew (Richard Steiff, the student of art department) of stuffed toy shop owner made a sketch of bear cub in the Stuttgart Zoo that became the base of the toy in future. Two manufacturing process of the same creature started almost at the same time but sure no one could suspect about existence of the second familiar line. The discovery of new German line took place in Leipzig fair in1903, when the bear introduced by Steiff got decent interest from the side of original German and excitement from the side of Americans who ordered more than 3000 of bears after the fair.
That was the beginning of bear fever that influenced millions of people: representatives of different nations, both adults and children. Till the 1906 the USA became the place of teddy bear's boom domination. The next similar boom took place only in 1980, a famous Cabbage Patch dolls craze. In the beginning of the 20th century millions and millions of teddy bears opened doors of millions families; young ladies carried tiny teddy bears just as accessories and children had got even pictures of their favorite teddy bear everywhere with themselves. They say that the symbol and mascot even helped Roosevelt to gain a win during his second President's election. A deal of books and songs joined the stream of teddy bear ?addiction?. Gradually teddy bear business was enlarged greatly by the inclusion of many new countries in it.
Today the toy-bear popularity is still very high. Souvenir bears are in high value all over the world. There are many different kinds of vintage bears collectors in different countries. A toy bear is always perfect present both for children and adults.
