Swimming is an established method of rehabilitation after surgery. An organism debilitated after any surgical procedure needs care. But at the same time it is necessary to restore exercise performance and prepare a body for a normal full life. In this case any physical stress is excluded. Swimming protects from any injury. In general, swimming is gentler to a body than any ground exercises, because in the water; body weight is reduced and it protects from any violent impact that can cause an injury.
Furthermore, in the water; body weight is approximately 10 times lighter than body weight on the ground. So, a movement spectrum of less trained person is wider because water supports a weight of limbs. Swimming after sugery is a good method of training for people who are not able to go in for any other ground sports when a body weight involves in a process because of any reasons.
Moreover, swimming is a kind of relaxation for our nervous system, which is more vulnerable after any kind of surgery. Especially if it concerns a post-mastectomy woman. A mastectomy is a shock for any woman. And it can influence a woman not physically but psychologically. It can cause a depression or any emotional disorders. Each woman wishes to recover her femininity that has been lost as she thinks.
All this influences her physical and mental health. In this case swimming is good not only for her physical state but for the mental one, as well. All the swimming after sugery is good for aftert-surgery patients and is also good for post-mastectomy women especially a breaststroke. There are also special swimsuits for such women that are comfortable for them.
An important phase of rehabilitation after surgery is physical exercises. First of all, it is swimming and physical exercises in water (hydrotherapy). For after-surgery patients we can offer the following general program of physical state improvement. First, swim along a swimming pool some time and have a rest for 30 seconds or more. Do not exhaust yourself furrowing a swimming pool. After several weeks you are able to extend a swimming time. Then you can start with warming-up for 5-10 minutes. Then you can swim for 20 minutes. At last, you end with 5-10 minutes of relaxed swimming. You can also add some additional exercises. For example, walking, aerobics, yoga in water. But you should always consult with your doctor and trainer not to injure yourself. Always remember:
1. Water supports up to 90 per cent of your body weight and protects your joints from an injury
2. Water helps to avoid a muscle pain after training. And at the same time it exercises them effectively because water is 14 times denser than air
3. A regular swimming is necessary for people with back pains.
4. If there is a cramping pain do not be panic. Turn on your back and relax. Then carefully move you leg in different directions.
Swimming after sugery not only reduces a joint stiffness and high blood pressure but also trains our breathing and cardiovascular system, and helps our heart and back. It is a good possibility for after-surgery patient to recover easily, comfortably and effectively. Swimming after sugery practically has no side effect unlike any drug, but you should be careful and do not exhaust yourself. It is better to consult with your doctor and choose your own program of rehabilitation.
