Sun exposure prevention tips

Added: 01/12/2006

Unprotected sun exposure brings to people various obvious dangers. Therefore efficient sun exposure prevention plays an important role in maintaining healthy condition and look of the person. The simplest way is to use good quality sunscreen. Nevertheless we still need some contact with sunlight because it helps to produce vitamin D which makes a great contribution in regulation of calcium and phosphate amount in the human body (to keep healthy teeth and bones).

The sun warmth can be alluring for many people. However in reality sunrays aren?t always equally pleasing. It?s well known that ultraviolet lights are invisible but at the same time very intense and therefore can cause damage to the human skin. The most evident harmful effect of excessive sun exposure are skin reddening and darkening, suntan or sunburn, liver (or age) spots, deep lines and wrinkles also may appear and worsen the overall condition of the person. Repeated sun exposure is able to progress your skin into various cancerous tumors.

Evidently, every person?s skin may be exposed to sunrays for a certain period of time with and not result into the erythema of sunburn. At the same time be aware that in several minutes you may experience it. That?s why it?s very important to know about the erythema dose (known as MED) - the minimal period of sun exposure which the person can tolerate without sunburn prevention.

Anyway sun exposure prevention plays an important role in human health. And every person knows that sun exposure prevention methods are essential and even vital from the very beginning of the person?s life. People use good quality sunscreen to provide efficient sun exposure prevention.

It?s obvious that every sunscreen has a particular sun protection factor which can range from 5 to 25. All the sunscreens are known to contain various chemicals; therefore, some patients sometimes experience allergic reactions. Such people can use help of medical specialist (pharmacist) to examine the person?s reactions on certain ingredient statements and choose (if necessary) alternative chemicals.

It?s worthy admitting that some patients even use such sun exposure prevention method as sun blocking products because they are advised by the doctor to completely avoid sun exposure. Another common sun avoidance strategy is covering the skin with clothing and wearing hats. However, unfortunately most clothing can provide only partial protection against ultraviolet rays. For example hats (or baseball caps) leave lower face, neck and ears unprotected. And at the same time typical shirts in summer are able to carry the sun protection factor from five to nine at best. It?s interesting to admit that cotton clothes is considered to be even less effective in sun exposure prevention.

Speaking about sun exposure prevention it?s important to remember to wear sunglasses which are rather helpful in preventing the development of cataracts (the main cause of blindness all over the world).

Thus, sun exposure prevention has become really important to minimize the risk of having sunburns, blisters or even skin cancer. Long-term problems may arise if the person doesn?t pay proper attention to sun exposure prevention. Be aware to keep your top on, cover your face, neck and ears, stay in the shade whenever it?s possible, drink plenty of water and therefore avoid dehydration and of course use good quality sunscreen.
