Competitive diving is truly a sport that is sweeping the nation if not the world. It may only take a few seconds to make one's way from the starting point on a platform or a springboard into the swimming pool. Put in those few seconds, the components of dive involve a combination of skill, timing and coordination. Competitive diving is a sport in which an athlete (or two athletes in synchronized diving) jumps from a certain height into the pool aiming to enter it as smoothly as he can. While in the air, the diver performs a series of twists and somersaults aiming to gain the highest possible score. In 1904, diving competition became a prominent sporting event, being included on the program of the1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis.
