Many homemade soap recipes have been known to people since the ancient times. A few hundred years ago, soap was manufactured using ashes of plants, lime, and animal fat. These components took much time to get prepared, filtered and mixed. With modern technologies, though, soap can be produced very quickly.
The basic components mentioned in homemade soap recipes include animal fat, vegetable oils, caustic sodium, aromatic, and coloring components. Additionally, moisturizing creams and antibacterial additives can be used.
The required fatty acids may come from the tallow, grease, fish oils, and vegetable oils. Indeed, vegetable oils are extensively used in the soap-making process, along with animal fats. Most frequently used vegetable oils include palm oil and coconut oil. The coconut oil has a softening and moisturizing effect on the skin - that is why it is so popular.
Speaking of soap-manufacturing in domestic conditions, we would like to recall the less difficult recipes. One of the simplest homemade soap recipes is the recipe of a bar soap. To manufacture it, we take 2 kg of caustic sodium, dissolve it in 8 liters of water, and heat the mixture up to 25 ° C. Add 12.5 kg of animal fat flux and cool everything up to 50 ° C. Then mix it carefully. Pour the liquid into plastic or wooden forms, and store for four or five days in a dry place, at a temperature 25 ° C.
To manufacture fragrant and color toilet soap, it is recommended to use other handmade soap recipes. You can use ready-made soaps as a raw material (preferably white soap). Place pieces of soap into a small bowl and mix with water. Heat the mixture. When the homogeneous mass is made, various other components can be added. The homemade soap recipes suggest that handmade soap ingredients, such as aromatic oil, coconut or palm oil, or coloring substances are added. Aromatic additives may include aromatic oils of tea tree, citrus, bergamot, mint, sage, rose, and geranium.
To add color, color substances are used. These substances are to be mixed well with soap, so as to avoid any harmful effects on the skin. Paints can be divided into two groups: soluble and insoluble. With the homemade soap recipes, it is preferable to use soluble paints, as they do not leave sediments and can be evenly dissolved in soap. To get the red color, use paints containing alkannine, fuchsine, zinnober, and minium. Yellow color can be attained using picric acids or a chromic yellow paint. To turn soap green, apply green aniline or a mix of indigo-carmine and picric acids. Besides, the green chromic paint can be used as a green paint. Violet soap can be produced with the help of methyl violet.
Medical soap normally possesses strong bactericidal and anti-inflammatory properties. To manufacture medical soap, you should make sure that you have the necessary ingredients, such as menthol, camphor, carbolic acid, and formalin.
Beware that your skin may be allergic to certain soap components. Therefore, you should use only high-quality ingredients when making soap in domestic conditions. And if the soap is intended for use by infants, all hypoallergic soap aromatic components have to be excluded at all.
