Common treatment options used in skin management

Added: 01/19/2006

It's evident that a clear and smooth complexion is a part of human physical attractiveness. However, as we age it becomes more and more difficult managing healthy skin. That's why it's important to be aware of skin management and possible treatment options to be chosen to make face and body skin healthy and good-looking. The most efficient and common treatments are retin-A, glycolic acid, etc.

It's a common knowledge that skin is the largest human body organ which is rather vulnerable to harsh sunrays and ultraviolet radiation. Face skin isn't an exception. It is subject to allergic reactions, rashes, injuries, acne and other factors which may cause permanent scars. That's why skin management is an important issue which should be paid attention to. Skin management includes the common treatment methods used for managing healthy skin. The article will provide you with the general information regarding skin management and results the person can achieve by taking it into consideration. Skin management includes daily care of skin through non-surgical skin treatment. These so-called "refinishing" treatment types are nowadays available to people who would like to soften or eliminate various skin imperfections and therefore achieve fresher and more attractive look. It's worthy mentioning that the treatments used in skin management include glycolic acids and retin-A. Speaking about skin management it's necessary to pay proper attention to each of the mentioned treatments. So, glycolic acid (sometimes referred to as "fruity acids") are known as natural fruit substances which are blended into various facial preparations and at the same time may be used to eliminate dried or rough skin surface. As for retin-A it's an important ingredient in present-day vitamin A enriched creams. Retin-A can change the skin surface's cellular metabolism and combat fine lines, wrinkles and blotches caused by excessive sun exposure. Generally speaking, retin-A is considered to be the most efficient option for older patients who have sun damaged skin with blotchy pigmented areas or fine wrinkles. Nevertheless, retin-A can also be prescribed to younger and rather active people who desire to combat harmful effects of excessive sun exposure. Glycolic acid can be used by people of all ages as well. But it seems to have more considerable influence on people with sun-damaged and rough skin. Sometimes glycolic acid is used to correct the areas of uneven pigmentation (along with bleaching chemicals). Each of the mentioned treatments can be used alone. However, they are often prescribed by doctors to facilitate various aesthetic surgery procedures (for example, chemical peel or facelift). Thus, according to skin management practice different skin surface-repair treatment options can provide the human skin with a smoother and fresher look. Unfortunately, they aren't able to remove flaws or deep scars and prevent the human skin from ageing. So, it's evident that glycolic acid and retin-A cannot be considered as universal treatments. They offer less significant results that various surgical procedures including dermabration, laser resurfacing or chemical peeling. Anyway, if a person is planning to have non-surgical or surgical skin treatment, it's rather important for him or her to choose a qualified doctor who has experience in a number of skin management techniques and treatment methods.
