Added: 02/27/2006

In shooting at the Olympic Games 2004, 390 shooters from all around the world contested seventeen gold medals. The competitions were held at the Mark& Oacute Shooting Olympic Centre, situated in the east of the Attica's Greek region. Chinese and Russian shooters heavily dominated the event and won most of the Olympic medals. One thing is for sure: shooting at the Olympic Games involves precision and patience.

Shooting at the Olympic Games has been carried out at all Summer Olympic Games ever since the inception of the contemporary Olympic movement in 1896 at the Summer Olympics except for the 1904 and 1928 Olympiads.

1900 -- Free Rifle 300m Prone, Free Pistol, Free Rifle 300m Three Positions, Live Pigeon Shooting, Free Rifle 300m Standing, Running Boar, Free Rifle 300m Kneeling, Rapid Fire Pistol, Trap.

Following the reintroduction of shooting in 1932, it embraced only two events. From then on, the quantity of events has increased progressively until getting the maximum of seventeen events in 2000-2004. The 2008 shooting at the Olympic Games will only involve fifteen events. Events listed below and marked as "Men's" were in fact open events prior to the inclusion of events for women in that discipline. Two female Olympic shooters won medals in the following mixed events: Zhan Shan in 1992, gold in Skeet and Margaret Murdock in 1976, silver in 50m Rifle Three positions
