Self-Tanning Spray and Lotions Work Well All Over the Body

Added: 12/06/2005

Ever wonder how some men and women are not only able to have a tan all-year long, but have a tan all over their body -- even in the most hard to reach spots -- like between their toes? They probably used a tanning spray. Among modern cosmetics there is a pretty wide range of different products for sunless tanning. Of course, the most widely used is a self-tanning spray or tanning lotion (lotions in most cases are oriented for use at home, while beauty salons usually use special tanning aerosols). But different brands of so-called "bronzers", tan accelerators and tanning pills are also widely used.

Today you can find a great number of different ways to get a tan without sun. Of course, the most obvious method is to use tanning bed. Almost all the beauty centers have some kind of tanning bed or special lamps for tanning. And the popularity of this method is huge. That is because many people think that such a method of getting tan is safer than sun exposure. But it is not so as the rays of such machines are just the same as rays of the sun (in some cases tanning bed gives even more powerful ultra violet rays exposure). Some salons claim that they use specific ultraviolet rays that are pretty safe for the skin but in fact such claims are not true also and there is no difference in effect of UVB and UVA; they are both dangerous for the skin. UV exposure is also dangerous for people with certain medical conditions like diabetes.

There are also other methods to get tan and you do not need any UV rays exposure here. These sunless tanning products are available in a great variety and different tanning spray and tanning pills are easily available.

One type of sunless tanning product is the so-called "bronzer". These are simply cosmetic products that do not affect your skin in any way and the only thing you get with them is a special dark cover. But it can be easily washed away in the shower so the result of tan with bronzers is not long-lasting.

More popular and more often used products are tanning spray and lotions. In most cases these products work by the same principle but usually tanning spray works a little faster - that why at beauty salons special tanning aerosols are used and that allows to make the entire procedure automatically. For home use you can find both tanning sprays and tanning lotions. All the cosmetic companies have special lines of such tanning products. Tanning effect in sprays and lotions is achieved by the special agents. Usually this agent is DiHydroxyAcetone (DHA). DHA is a sugar that oxidizes upper layer of your skin making it darker.

No matter whether you use a tanning spray or tanning lotion you should remember that these products take effect quickly; so you have to be quick and wash your palms several times during the tanning procedure. It is much easier to apply sunless tanning lotion if you have someone to help you.

Another sunless tanning product you can acquire on the modern market is special tanning pills. Actually these pills do not give you the tanning effect - their mechanism is totally different. Usually such pills contain a huge amount of some pigment that colors your skin - like canthaxanthin, for example. But such a technique is not safe because pigment colors the entire body including inner organs. And that can be dangerous for your health - self-tanning pills can harm your liver or cause vision damage.

Even though tanning pills are not approved by health organizations they can be found on the modern market and many people use them because of the simplicity. But choosing sunless tanning product you should think about your heath in a first place. So, be careful with different tanning pills and always talk with your doctor before you use them.
