Rugby League Clubs - An International Love Affair with the World's Most Rugged Sport

Nowadays rugby league is played, perhaps, all over the world. There are a great number of organizations engaged in rugby: national and international, large and small, state and private. And a great variety of rugby league clubs exists now in the whole world, as well as famous rugby names and team names. Thus, various rugby league competitions regularly take place in various countries. And millions of eyes watch them with admiration.

All rugby league competitions can be divided into national ones and international ones. The Rugby League International Federation rules rugby league at the international level. There are the following rugby league international competitions: the Ashes, the Rugby League World Cup, ANZAC test match, the Tri Nations, the Pacific Cup, the Pacific Rim Championship, Mediterranean Cup and the European Nations Cup. But before any of rugby league teams can takes part in one of these international rugby league competitions it must win its national championship or Europe championship, i.e. win one of the rugby league club competitions.

We can indicate the two main rugby league club competitions: the National Rugby League and the Europe Super League. The team-winner from each competition plays for the World Club Challenge each February. Let's take a brief review of the national rugby league clubs, rugby league teams and rugby league club competitions in different rugby-playing countries.

Begin with the rugby league's native land - with the United Kingdom. In the United Kingdom rugby league is ruled by the Rugby Football League (RFL). This organization administers the club game as well as the Great Britain side. The RFL also controls the England National Rugby League Team. The branches of RFL are in charge of the Wales and Scotland rugby league clubs and teams. The RFL administers the Europe Super League and cooperates with the British Amateur Rugby League Association in running the England amateur game.

Another rugby league-playing country under review is Australia. This country has a great number of rugby league clubs. Rugby league in Australia is ruled by the National Rugby League and the Australian Rugby League. The National Rugby League administers the rugby league club competition. Whereas the Australian Rugby League is in charge of the national team, the Kangaroos, The National Rugby League (NRL) is the main and the most prestigious rugby league competition in Australia. There are many other rugby league organizations in Australia (e. g. Queensland Rugby League, Victorian Rugby League, etc.).

New Zealand. New Zealand Rugby League controls rugby league in New Zealand and runs the national competition, the Bartercard Cup and national team, the Kiwis.

France. The most famous rugby league club is les Catalans. Rugby league in France is under control of the France Rugby League Federation. The national competition is the French Rugby League Championship. France is considered to be the very perspective country as for the rugby league game. Now there is a growing number of rugby league clubs, teams and people engaged in rugby league.

There are many rugby league clubs, teams, national and local rugby league competitions in other countries, e. g. in the USA, the Russian Federation, etc. (American National Rugby League, Russian Rugby Football League, etc.). All this allows us to state that rugby league is truly an international sport and rugby league clubs can be found in almost every country in the world.
