It appears that chronic smokers not only gain priodontal diseases owing to endless smoking, but also they run the risk of losing all their teeth. It is well established fact that smoking is harmful for your health. And, besides, these days there appears to be fewer and fewer places where one is allowed to smoke. If you want to give up this bad habit now is the best time. A group of scientists from Newcastle University did some research and proved that chronic smokers have six times a bigger likelihood to be down with
priodontal diseases as non-smoking people.
There is an evident reason for it: gum problems promote the regeneration of bacteria in a tooth patch. As a result of harmful activities the gums get inflamed and become loose, depriving teeth of their support. At the same time, the supporting bone is destroyed, too. Thus either a tooth falls out or it has to be removed. Priodontal diseases are also guileful enough: your gums and teeth don`t ache and a patient finds out that he is about to lose his teeth only at the dentist's office.
It is obvious that smokers have worse teeth and gums than non-smokers. In addition, nicotine depresses the immune system. Experts have noticed a very evident connection between the number of cigarettes smoked daily and the probability of getting ill with priodontal diseases. If a daily norm for a chronic smoker was half a pack he's got three times bigger probability than a non-smoker.
The scientists have also found out that even after a person has given up smoking his gums turned to a normal state only after the lapse of eleven years. The point is that the compounds that smoke contains block oxygen to the gum tissues and prevents the recovering processes and reduces resistance to infections. Consequences for these processes may be not only lost teeth but far more complicated and serious problems: heart diseases, a heightened risk of infarction, diabetes, lung diseases and
premature confinement.
There are a lot of dental clinics providing the most recent approaches to the treatment of tooth and gum diseases. To prevent dental problems follow these simple guidelines. Clean your teeth twice a day. It removes a soft patch from teeth. Use a tooth brush of the average inflexibility and change it on a monthly basis. Clean your teeth thoroughly for no less than three minutes. Use floss to clean areas between teeth. Only floss can remove bacteria and food remains from these places.
It is also important to have well-balanced meals. Arrange your diet
from the various basic food groups. Your rations should have enough hard food such as apples, carrot, etc. Quit using those sandwiches and candies, sweet aerated, and fruit beverage foods, as your diet. And, of course, visit your dentist regularly. A regular professional tooth cleaning is very important for preventing periodontitis. If you have already faced the problem of gum diseases, regular visits to your dentist are especially important. And, of course, you had better give up cigarette smoking because tobacco inflames gum tissues and hastens the development of periodontitis.
