Added: 12/02/2005

Psoriasis disease is considered to be not just a skin condition. It is a real skin disorder manifesting in different forms and possible to appear at any age. There are several types of psoriasis of special skin sites. For instance, the most widely spread types of psoriasis are guttate, pustular, flexural, erythrodermic, nail, scalp and other ones. But more attention in this article will be paid to the seborrheic psoriasis and palmo plantar psoriasis types.

Psoriasis disease - a non-contagious skin disorder. About 2% of the world population is affected by psoriasis disease. First such name to the disease was given in 1841 by the Austrian dermatologist Ferdinand von Hebra. But historians note that even in ancient times there were some descriptions of psoriasis.

Psoriasis disease is known to be the common and chronic skin disease; this reoccurring skin problem is possible to affect any part of your body. It may appear at any gender and age, but likely between the ages of 11 to 45. There are five different types of psoriasis disease, every of which has its unique signs, symptoms and ways of treatment. About 10% to 30% of people with psoriasis of special skin sites get a related form of arthritis known as "psoriatic arthritis" causing the joints inflammation.

It s very important to make on overview of some widely spread types of psoriasis of special skin sites, particularly seborrheic and palmo plantar psoriasis. Speaking about the seborrheiec psoriasis it's impossible not to mention that it appears as red scaly surfaces on the human's scalp, above the shoulder blades, behind the ears, in the groin or armpits, sometimes even in the center of the face. In this case the scalp usually has dry skin or crusted plaque areas. The scales on the scalp look greasy.

Seborrheic psoriasis is often called seborrhiasis or inverse psoriasis. This psoriasis of special skin sites has the following symptoms: the sores are red, dry and very inflamed; there's not a lot of scaling. This kind of psoriasis occurs, as a rule, under the breasts and buttocks, near the armpits, around the anus, etc. Very often psoriasis of special skin sites is seen in people with overweight.

Another psoriasis of special skin sites in called palmo plantar one. It is considered to be a chronic recurrent condition. It is very often seen in tobacco smokers. But be aware that giving up smoking doesn't mean having no more psoriasis disease. This type of psoriasis affects the soles and palms in variable ways. You may notice their scaling and thickening with sheets of tiny-yellow brown pustules. It is also characterized by a widespread erythema which is primarily localized to the soles and palms. The pustules may change into circular, scaly brown spots which later peel off. They are not itchy, but still can be either uncomfortable or painful.

It's is worth admitting that psoriasis disease may for the first time be caused by mental or emotional stress, skin injury. But the major factor is heredity. So, in 30% of psoriasis cases the reason of the disease is family history. According to recent studies of many researchers genes are an integral link to the psoriasis of special skin sites.

Thus, it is strange but still there's no definite cause of psoriasis. The areas affected by this disease begin to grow much faster than usually and form scaling, red, silvery patches. The commonly affected by psoriasis disease areas of the human's body are knees, elbows, navel, palms, groin, ears and scalp. However any part of the body may be involved. Often psoriasis of special skin sites is accompanied by irritation and unpleasant feelings.
