The history of eastern vegetarianism is traced to Indian culture and especially directly to Indian philosophy and religion. Those were Buddhism and Hinduism religious systems that gave the birth for vegetarian nutrition systems. As for the West, today?s
Present vegetarianism is presented in many variants and types with different diets sets and rules.
Ovo-lacto diet is considered to be one of the most popular vegetarian streams. The followers of these variant of vegetarianism eat almost everything except meat (ovo-lacto vegetarians) even eggs and dairy). Ovo-lacto diet is balanced vegetarian diet that provides the full necessary set of nutritive materials (ovo-lacto products contain the full set of essential vitamins) and at the same time guarantees vegetarian health benefits (reduction of health diseases, diabetes, cancer, obesity, etc). Ovo-lacto diet tendency?s growth is especially popular in west culture at present. This diet sometimes is also called eggitarian.
The second position takes lacto vegetarianism that excludes also eggs consumption. Ovo vegetarianism representatives eat variety of products while the exception for them is meat and dairy.
The strictest variant of vegetarianism is veganism that constantly stands under the strongest criticism. Only plant nutrition, and no animal products at all, even in consumer goods (no leather or cosmetics of animal origin, etc.) are accepted by real vegans.
One of the veganism types is macrobiotic vegetarianism (that is less widespread, though). Macrobiotic products that are ?not forbidden? for macrobiotic vegetarians are only grains and beans. Despite these strict rules some macrobiotic vegetarians allow themselves having some fish (but exactly no meat, eggs and dairy products). The main purposes of macrobiotic vegetarians are gaining the balance between nutrition perceived as ying and yang (positive and negative).
One unusual variant of veganism is raw food diet. The followers of this diet consume only raw products sometimes warmed slightly. They believe that only in this way it is possible to preserve all nutritive materials gifted by nature. Some of raw ?foodists? prefer previous soaking of products in water. Many of raw diet fans are fruitarians. Fruitarians? food allowance includes fruits, nuts, and seeds. Some of these vegetarians eat only fruits that fell from the tree following some holistic philosophy principles.
No matter what vegetarian variant is chosen the vegetarians always gain health and spiritual benefits. It is proved that any vegetarian system reduces the level of heart diseases, cancer, diabetes, obesity, etc. but anyway most scientists and physicians recommend ovo-lacto diet as the most effective and preferable.
Although the vegetarianism is still under the constant strict criticism the benefit of this nutrition system are obvious so many new persons join ?vegetarian team? every day.
