Naccas, which can be de-abbreviated as National Accrediting Comission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences, is an absolutely independent, autonomous accrediting commission, which is recognized in the United States. Naccas has the status of a non-profit organization. It was founded on the basis of the Delaware Corporation. The main offices of the National Accrediting Comission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences are located in the state of Virginia, in the city of Alexandria. Naccas is the organization with a relatively long history of existence. It was founded in 1969. The National Accrediting Comission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences was constituted from two minor accrediting organizations. As the result of their blending a major accrediting agency was formed. It acquired the name of Cosmetology Accrediting Comission, which can be also referred to as CAC. The year of 1981 witnessed another important event in the history of Naccas development. The name of the organization was changed from CAC to Naccas, which is still in circulation today.
The Educational department of the United States government recognizes the National Accrediting Comission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences as the agency, which is authorized to conduct the accreditation of the following institutions: post-secondary education schools, cosmetology arts departments, and specialized schools. At the current stage of its development the National Accrediting Comission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences provides accreditation for over 1,000 educational institutions, which in their turn serve about 100,000 students. The above-mentioned educational institutions provide their students with the choice of over twenty programs and courses.
All of the above are consequently attributed with Naccas accreditation. In order to give you a touch on the essence of Naccas accreditation, mention must be made of the fact that it presupposes a certain level of academic performance. If the educational institution meets the national requirements in this respect, it receives the corresponding accreditation. The standards for academic performance, which are valid within the boundaries of the United States are established by the agency, which is absolutely impartial and possesses a non-governmental status. The very concept of accreditation is very peculiar and characteristic of the American educational system. The accrediting in general can be conducted by national, professional and regional agencies, for example, schools, which are characterized by similar subject matter and professional objectives. The accreditation in its essence is a reliable way to secure the integrity of the educational board towards the students and the highest quality of education. Taking into consideration the fact that the accrediting institutions are non-governmental, only several organizations are recognized by the US Educational Department. Naccas is among them. Naccas staff and commissioners are all experienced professionals.
