Mud games founder Roy Trubshow

Added: 03/03/2006

Roy Trubshow and Alan Cox are two of the most influential video game designers. Their names are tightly associated with the MUD games. MUD, which stands for muti user dungeon is a muti player computer game is great. Today, it is impossible to imagine the gaming industry without MUD games. Therefore, let's learn more about this technology.

MUD is short for multi user dungeon, domain, or dimension. It is a multiplayer computer game that incorporated elements of hack and slash computer games, role playing games, and messaging chat rooms. AMUD is usually run on a dedicated internet server or bulletin board system. Such a game is usually text driven in which the players can read descriptions of many objects such as rooms, events, or other characters in a virtual world. Players can interact with each other by typing special commands that corresponding English words. Traditional MUD games accomplish a fantasy world that inhabits goblins, elves, and other mythical beings where players can take on a number of different classes such as mages, thieves, priests, warriors, druids, and much more.

The goal of a MUD game is to kill monsters, explore virtual worlds, and find a way to accomplish one or more missions. The creators of MUD interface were Alan Cox and Roy Trubshow. Alan Cox was born in 1968 and since 1991 he has been heavily involved in the development of Linux Kernel. When he studied computer programming at the University of Wales he installed one of the earliest versions of Linux on a computer that belonged to the University's computer society. By doing this, Alan Cox discovered that there were many bugs in the Linux networking code. He fixed many of these bugs and practically rewrote the complete networking code. Later on he became one of the main Linux developers and maintainers of the entire Linux kernel. Alan Cox is considered by many to be the second in command after Linus Torvalds who was the creator of Linux.

Now, Cox works for Red Hat and lives in Swansea, Wales with his wife. Alan is known as a fierce supporter of computing freedom and is an ardent opponent of software licensing. He protests against such large computer companies as Microsoft for their attempts to prosecute violators of software patents such as DMCA or CBDPTA. Because, of this he doesn't visit the United States for fear of going to jail for software patent violations. His contribution to the development of Linux and MUD games can't be underestimated. Another notable programmer that influenced MUD games was Roy Trubshow. Roy Trubshow is a computer programmer and game researcher who is best known for his involvement in the MUD project. He is considered one of the pioneers of the online gaming industry. First, MUD games were created by him and Richard Bartle in 1978. It was the first introduction of the MUD interface and nine years later, Roy Trubshow stated to work full time of MUD two. And, quite recently he returned to the University of Essex as a part time computer programming professor.

Next, it is necessary to develop assessment instruments, instructional plan design, and conduct a formative evaluation and revise the data from the formal evaluation. The formal evaluation is based on the Dick and Carey model which is summative. At this point, the designer should perform an independent evaluation to judge the worth of the instruction. The Dick and Carey model follows one of the major principles in which a large task is broken down into smaller tasks. The Dick and Carey model is one of the reductionism instructional designer's models and it is correct for average sized designing instructions. For larger designing instructions other designer model such as the Kemp's model is more likely to fit.
