Modern Screenwriters Weave 21st Century ClassicsIt's worth admitting that it may be increasingly difficult to make a living as Hollywood modern screenwriters. But this doesn't stop thousands of people from trying their hands in screenwriting. Many people often write commercially-appealing screenplays and give it to the right people. It's a common knowledge that this activity requires the high level of creativity and the polished skills of a storyteller.
One of the most famous modern screenwriters is David Lynch, an American filmmaker, whose works are well known all over the world for elements of cinematic realism and surrealism. David Lynch was born on January, 20 1946 and, first he had an intention of becoming a painter. Only in 1970 his attention was focused on filmmaking. He succeeded in winning a grant from American Film Institute to produce the film "Grandmother" about a neglected boy growing his grandmother from a seed. The film lasted only 30 minutes but it was full of different elements which in future would become the distinguishing trademarks of David Lynch films.
These days he is one of the modern screenwriters who have made his style instantly recognizable thanks to his askew vision, verbal and visual film peculiarities and outlook. Producer Mel Brooks once called David Lynch "Jimmy Stewart from Mars". It really was a compliment. It should be noted that David twice won the France Caesar Awards for Best Foreign Film. In 2002 he was honored by the French government with the famous Legion of Honor and was three times nominated for the Academy Award of directing, but has yet managed to win.
In contrast to David Lynch, Kevin Smith's films are recognized for their distinctive and unforgettable dialogue and vision. Kevin is also among the top 10 modern screenwriters, comic book writers and original film directors. He was born on August, 2 1970. His first First Place win at the 1994 Sundance Film festival introduced him to the public with his offbeat film debut work entitled "Clerks". This movie was immediately at that time snapped up by the Miramax; it had a great success on the expanding independent film circuit and earned one of the limited national releases at the end of 1994. His production company is now called View Askew Productions. Smith's films often feature such actors as Ben Affleck, Jason Lee, Matt Damon and some others.
Thus, such modern screenwriters as David Lynch and Kevin Smith play an important role in the development of today's film industry. They do their best in making outstanding and incredibly successful movies, engage featuring in them famous actors and actresses, turn on their substandard imagination and creativity in creating characters and different life situations.
However, it's important to note that more than ever before, screenwriting is a collaborative work of art. It's the rare screenwriter that can turn in a script and know that it will be accepted "as is". At the same time, most movies are often considered to be a director's medium rather than that of the screenwriter. So, usually the director shapes the film. But still, most professionals accept that the screenwriting is what makes the story come alive regardless of the talent is.
