Miss World pageant started as the "Festival Bikini Contest" which was organized in 1951 in honor of the recently presented swimwear of that time. But this contest was recognized as Miss World in the mass-media. Through the long Miss World history this contest developed into the popular and prestigious international beauty pageant. It is known to be the most widely attended and broadcasted event of the year, including more than one hundred delegates in the competition.

The contest dates back to the mid 90s of the 20th century (in 1951). Miss World was considered to be a part of the 1951 "Festival of Britain celebrations" which had an official title "Festival Bikini contest". Why was it called the Miss World pageant? Though it was initially planned to be a one-off event, it was the British mass-media which recognized this festival as "Miss World".
The global audience present at Miss World was bigger than the one on such internationally popular events as the Olympic Games and the World Cup. As it has already been mentioned Miss World beauty pageant was founded by Eric Marley who originally intended this event to be one-time. But the equation of the following 1952 year was entered by Miss Universe beauty pageant. That's why Eric made up his mind to organize the Miss World show annually. Since that time this international beauty contest became life's passion and work for both Eric and his wife Julia. As the Miss World beauty contest entered the new century Eric died.
It's a common knowledge that a road to the crown of Miss World is rather long and complicated. Before the global finals of this pageant, every delegate has to win the national title in her own country or win the special Miss World nationally preliminary. As a matter of fact the annual final of the contest lasts about a month and includes a great number of events, dinners, balls, galas and activities which will then be culminated in the global telecast show. But the field in this final show is usually narrowed up to 15-20 best delegates.
What is the most attractive thing about the Miss World beauty pageant? The winner is known to spend a year traveling all around the world and representing the Miss World organization with its various causes. It's worth mentioning that Miss World's agenda is rather altruistic; it has raised over two hundred million pounds for different global charity activities.
Miss World beauty contest welcomes annually about a hundred participants from various countries of the world. Its distinguishing feature is diverse judging panels, therefore the pageant is considered to be one of the less predictable events if compared to its rivals.
Thus, Miss World has become one of the outstanding international events organized on the annual basis and attracting millions of people.
