Male fashion designers Christobal Balenciaga

Christobal Balenciaga and designer Christian Dior are two of the most influential male fashion designers of the twentieth century. Their influence upon the fashion industry was great. Chistobal Balenciaga and Christian Dior who were designers left their mark on the fashion of the twentieth century and many designers follow in their footsteps today.

One of the most influential fashion designers Christobal Balenciaga was born in 1895 in Guevara, Spain. The famous Spanish designer was of Basque ancestry. Christobol Balenciaga was known for his funeral shaped gowns and he was acclaimed by his famous clients Mona Von Bismarck and Pauline De Rothschild. During the fifties and sixties these gowns were considered masterworks of haute couture. Christobal Balenciaga taught fashion design classes that brought inspiration to other designers such as Oscar De La Renta. Presently, the Balenciaga fashion house belongs to the Gucci Group and is directed by Nicolas Ghesquiere. Christobol Balenciaga was known for his distinctive cut clothing and his usual designs in handbags. One of the most influential male fashion designers, Christobal Balenciaga died in 1972 in Valencia, Spain.

One of the most influential male fashion designers Christian Dior was born in 1905 in Granville, Normandy, France. In 1946, Christian Dior established his house of couture in Paris and became one of the most famous male fashion designers in France. In only twelve years Christian Dior expanded his business to fifteen countries with two thousand people employed by him. During his childhood, Christian Dior attended the Catholic school called College Stanislaus in Paris and after graduating from it he attended The Paris Institute of Political Studies. However, Christian Dior knew that he had a real flair for fashion design and after graduating from the Institute look he opened his house of couture. Christian Dior is primarily well known for his new look design that he introduced in 1947. The gowns featured narrow shoulders, an exaggerated bust line, and a constricted waist. It was a longer and wider skirt on the contrary to the wartime fashions.

Christian Dior was one of the first male fashion designers who revived the feminine look in women's fashion after the war. The new look revolutionized the women's dress and reestablished Paris as the center of the world's fashion after the Second World War ended. His collaboration with Jacques Rouet resulted in spreading Dior's fashions to Europe and the United States. In1953, the famous successor of Dior's haute couture house and one of the best male fashion designers, Yves Saint Laurent was appointed to fill the position of Dior's assistant. However, he was forced to carry out obligatory military service and later on Yves Saint Laurent established his own fashion house. Christian Dior suffered from obesity and had some heart troubles which resulted in a heart attack during a weight loss cure at a spa in Montecatini, Italy which lead to his death in 1957.

Christian Dior's death was a pretty big story in the French press however; the launch of the first Soviet satellite happened three days after the designer's death and overshadowed it. By the time of his death, Dior's salons had been opened in 25 countries throughout the world primarily in Europe and the United States. The brand of designer Christian Dior was successfully operated by designs Marc Bohan, Yves Saint Laurent, Gianfranco Ferre, and John Galliano remains a fashion leader by offering a wide assortment of men's wear and household items.
