Italian automobiles designers famous all over the world

Added: 01/27/2006

Italian automobiles designers are famous all over the world. They create real masterpieces. They say that Italian design has always been associated with elegance and creativity. It has managed to become the international language of car design. Aurelio Lampredi is one of the best designers who worked for Ferrari. Alfredo Ferrari is the only son of Enzo Ferrari.

Speaking about Italian style it should be said that it has always been associated with elegance and creativity. Automobiles are one of the spheres where the Italian design has considerably succeeded. Turin is considered to be the very centre of Italian automobile manufacturing. About 10 top firms of car designs are situated close to the city. But the firms’ activities are not limited to the design of cars. They also are involved in creating a lot of other things like sailboats and forklifts. Auto designers say that Italian design is the universal language of the car design. American cars are expected to be flamboyant and solid. As for Italian cars, they are expected to be quite different: sportive, aggressive and extremely sexy. Most Italian designers prefer to work in rather small studios, not large design centers. Italian automobiles designers say that they are creative people, and the stereotype that Italia is a country of creative people is close to be true. Speaking about Italian automobiles designers it is necessary to mention Aurelio Lampredi who was one of the most famous Italian automobiles designers. The man started his career at Piaggio where he made the Vespa scooters. But soon he moved to the engines that were much larger. Before the Second World War he worked for Isotta-Fraschini. After that he designed aircraft engines for Reggiane. In 1946 Lampredi started working with Ferrari and became famous for the 'Lampredi engine' which was first used in 1950. In 1947 Lampredi came back to Isotta-Fraschini but in 1948 he did return to Ferrari again. The engines designed by the man were used as alternatives to the ones of Gioacchino Colombo whose engines were widely used before. But soon one of Colombo engines failed. It was the time when Lampredi's design won the favor of the company. In 1955 the work of Lampredi for Ferrari was temporarily stopped because the man bought the racing team of Lancia and famed a designer named Vittorio Jano who had previously worked for Alfa Romeo. In spite of the fact that Lampredi's designs were widely used in Ferrari cars, two designs of Jano soon replaced Lampredi's engine. After the contribution he made to Ferrari, the man moved to Fiat where he worked till 1977. Lampredi was made manager at one of the Fiat's racing groups. He held the post from 1973 till 1982. Alfredo Ferrari can be called one of the most famous Italian automobiles designers. His nicknames are Dino and Alfredino. He was the only son of Enzo Ferrari. From the very childhood Enzo Ferrari groomed his son as his future successor. That is why he sent the boy to study at the best European schools. At the end of 1955, Dino offered his father the development of one of his engines. Some time later the boy fell ill. He suffered from muscular dystrophy. When he stayed in hospital, Vittorio Jano came to him and together they discussed the details of the guy's new engine. Dino was not destined to see the engine that he created. He died in 1956 at the age of 24 years old. Dinos and Fiat Dinos are the namesake automobiles that were produced soon after his death.
