Before dwelling in detail on the subject of holiday gifts it seems quite opportune to try to trace the roots of the tradition of giving each other presents for some particular occasion. It is historically justified that the tradition of holiday gifts is an extremely ancient one and draws its origin from the way ancient people brought gifts in order to pay tribute to their pagan gods.
At that time it was believed that only gods were worthy of being delivered gifts, but gradually the tradition was spread further to the kings and the representatives of royal families, that enjoyed giving and receiving gifts very much, and finally it has become customary to exchange holiday gifts with all the members of the society regardless of the social class.
The tradition of exchanging holiday gifts is a very enjoyable one and is greatly appreciated by people who tend to look at the bright side of life. Certainly there are such that claim that giving out presents is quite a silly thing to do because you may have no idea what the other person would be happy to get as a present and this places you under a considerable stress since you have to figure out what kind of holiday gifts to get. And even if you place a great deal of effort into the analysis of various Christmas gift ideas or, say, Valentine's day gift ideas there still is a very great risk that you will fail to make the right decision and will eventually present the person with something they will not enjoy or even find useless.
This is exactly the same situation that the person who is trying to think of a gift fro you is placed into. He is faced with a challenge to please you, which may not be an easy task. So skeptics claim that rather than exchanging holiday gifts that may eventually turn out to be useless people should better give and receive cards (as a tribute to the tradition) in order not to spend extra money for unnecessary stuff.
However, this is the opinion shared by not a whole lot of people. In fact a much more widely spread opinion is the following: it is always nice to exchange holiday gifts regardless of how much use the receiver will make of them. It is the intention that matters. It is not the item that was presented that needs to be taken into consideration, but rather the feeling of the giver that accompanied the gift. All holiday gifts are not just things to improve or brighten up your everyday routine, but rather to serve as a manifestation of respect or love of the giver.
Holiday gifts are also perfect as they can efficiently serve the purpose of sharing the holiday spirit. By way of exchanging holiday gifts people share their nice mood. Besides, any holiday gift will invariably be presented with a smile and this will definitely lift the spirit of both the giver and the receiver. It of course can be quite a challenge for busy people to budget time to go holiday gifts shopping, but the joy of exchanging them is surely worth it.
You will be assured that it is so when you see the smiling faces of your loved ones upon opening the special holiday gifts!
