There are several football associations in the world. But of all these associations "The football association" was the first one to be formed and give impetus to a number of other football organizations. Football is the name given to a number of different, but related, team sports. The most popular of these worldwide is association football, which is called soccer in several countries. The English language word "football" is also applied to rugby football (Rugby union and Rugby league), American football, Australian rules football, Gaelic football, and Canadian football.
The football association is a governing organization managing football games in England. Unlike most other national football associations (like Belgian Football Association), the football association does not have the national word in its name. The football association was founded in 1863, which makes it the oldest football association in the world. In its turn, the football association is a member of UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) and FIFA (The Federation Internationale de Football Association).
As long as this organization governs all the football events in England, each English football club has to be a member the football association.
As it has already been mentioned, the football association history started in 1863 - the very first meeting of this association was held on October 26 in London. During the following six meetings, the football association rules were considered. And the very first football game, where the new rules were applied, was held in 1864. The following history of the football association saw certain improvements. Nowadays you can easily find the information about the football association and its events. There are many different web sites in the Internet that are dedicated to it. These web sites feature the football association competitions that took place in different years. This is a pretty impressive list of events.
There are bigger football associations, such as UEFA. This organization represents different national associations, among which there is the football association. Most football events in Europe are organized and governed by the Union of European Football Associations. This is a pretty big organization; though, there is a higher level organization. For example, there is FIFA. It stands for the "Federation Internationale de Football Association". This organization represents six different continental associations (UEFA is one of these associations). Bigger international football events are usually held by FIFA. This organization makes decisions about the football rules in most cases. There is another organization that governs football rules - International Football Association Board (or simply IFAB as it is referred universally).
Football is not simply a game - football competitions are great shows that are watched by millions of people. So, today there is a great need in all these football associations. Modern football is a very profitable business, which is to be kept under control. Sales of the football equipment, brands and football events are controlled by FIFA and IFAB.
