Gorillaz - a Faceless Band Making Not-So-Faceless MusicThe unique project called "Gorillaz" came to existence owing to the efforts of musicians Dan Nakamura and the leader Daemon Albarn. Besides them there are many people relating to Gorillaz. These personages are Del tha Funkee Homosapien and Kid Koala, the vocals by Mikho Hatori, musicians Tina Waymoot and Kris Franz. The virtual staff was created by famous animator Jamie Hewlett directing all videos by Gorillaz.
The brief history of Gorillaz is the following: bass Murdoc Nicalls decides to rob a shop where nice guy Stu-Pot is working, and creates his own band for this money. Cutting into the storefront Murdoc drives a Stu`s eye out. The guy is missing the second guy after dashing out through the windshield. Instead of missing eyes Sue is issued with new eyes looking like black holes and new name 2D is given to him. Murdoc encounters drummer Russel Hobbs in a Rap Records store.
Unusual talents of the young man became apparent in the day when the souls of his friends - talented musicians and dee jays killed in a fight occupied his body. The staff is supplemented with a Japanese girl playing guitar well, sent to the guys to the studio via e-mail. The girl can really play guitar well, also she possesses an exquisite art of karate and knows only one word in English - Noodle - this name was given to her from the very beginning.
The debut took place in 2000. Firstly introduced two maxi singles "Tomorrow Comes Today" and extremely successful "Clint Eastwood" got an audience ready for the release of their first album "Gorillaz" in 2001. A successful beginning was supported by a series of concerts after what the virtual musicians got lost for four years. The return was expected in May 2005. The album "Demon Days" was written in the band's studio "Kong Studios".
In its production the following people participated: producer Danger Mouse, musicians Neneh Cherry, Martina Topley-Bird, Roots Manuva, De La Soul, Dennis Hopper, MF Doom, "Bootie Brown of the Pharcyde", Shaun Ryder, and the San Fernandez Youth Chorus. Gorillaz band members and career is the most striking example of the combination of talented musicians and animation. Gorillaz is a virtual band living and arranging concerts on the Internet. Of course, they arrange "live" concerts but in this case the band hides behind the screen.

By the way, let's say a few words about music. Their music is a weird mixture of hip-hop, trip-hop, funk, punk, big beat, reggae, pop and even jazz the main component of which is an electronic "cyber" sounding combination. Critics call their music "anarchic zombie hip-hop, yet Gorillaz was nominated for a Mercury Music Award for their super successful album. As soon as the musicians knew about it they refused to take part in the ceremony. Obviously Mercury seemed too heavy for them as Murdoc said it would be too heavy to carry it out.
