Funny men - Making us Laugh at our Ourselves

They are two of Hollywood's most endeared funny men: Steve Martin and Jim Carey. Surprisingly, they have never starred together in a movie. But that's o-k, as their individual efforts more than make up for it. They are both masters of physical comedy. Steve Martin started out as part of the original cast of Saturday Night Live, and Jim Carey had his first break on a short-lived television series called The Duck Factory. Two different roads leading to the same success.

Steve Martin is a living example of how the ability to smile can make a person successful and popular. Steve Martin is an actor, comedian, playwright, producer, screenwriter, and author. And he is surely one of the most popular funny men in America if not the world.

All his life he has demonstrated through his art how crucial it is to laugh first at his characters and then at themselves. And people love him and his silver haired head. Yet despite his comic genius, Steve Martin is also considered to be a serious talented actor and author. His books are surely bestsellers even if everyone understands it is just a hobby for Steve Martin. And besides he has a degree in philosophy. Philosophy and comedy. Perhaps that is the secret to his success at being one of the most beloved funny men in Hollywood.

Steve Martin may be one of the most popular funny men on the screen, but at times his personal life has been less than something to laugh at. He has had his share of relationships gone-bad. And like any actor or comedian his popularity has had its share of ups and downs. But Hollywood's middle name is "survival" and Steve martin has always managed to reinvent himself in a way that keeps him at the top of his game.

Jim Carrey on the other hand, is an example of the American Dream come true. He was born in a poor Canadian family. He has been working as a comedian for the last 20 years. Once this boy was noticed among other funny men by an agent and got the job in the show "Rubber face". Since then Rubber face has been the nick name of Jim Carrey and actually his main quality. It is hard to count the number of films he has been starring in - all the films we watch when we are particularly gloomy and disappointed. His characters make us laugh and cry at the same time because is so funny that it is impossible not to cry from laughter. We should say he is not only an outstanding comedian, but also a comedy writer, impressionist, singer and song writer, laborer, sculptor and painter. He surely has the talent and strength to change the world and to teach other people to do it.

For all of Carrey's talent as one of world's premier funny men, he too has known the lows and highs of a Hollywood career. Twice married and divorced, he needs to keep the hits coming in order to maintain a lifestyle that includes ex-wives and children. But the ability to laugh at him is probably the thing that has kept him going for so long.

There are different kinds of humor - humor of situation, play of words or even silly stories that are funny just because they are simply silly. Humor and sarcasm are the best way to appreciate a person or humiliate him. There is also a saying that the best love making is when people are laughing in bed. We see the laughter is the great warfare in the hands of crafty men. It can fight for better and for worse. And there are some people who help us to handle it. They smile at themselves and teach us with their own example.

There are people who are ready to smile when they are in a difficult situation. There are people who are able to make another person to smile at the situation he or she is in. But there are just a few people who are able to laugh at themselves. And even fewer people who can make others laugh at themselves sincerely. They are called talents and that is why most of them get their jobs in Hollywood.
