Fashion modeling includes jobs in magazines and collections editorials, campaigns which are reserved for top fashion models. High fashion modeling is a pretty hard and sought after job because of the provided possibilities. Fashion modeling is nowadays open for anyone, for any sizes and body types. If a person wants to be a model he or she should take into consideration the basic fashion modeling requirements listed in this article.
Fashion modeling covers a wide range of work: from covers and editorials for various fashion magazines to commercial advertisement campaigns for designers and clothing manufacturers (including the top world-famous brands). Fashion modeling is considered to be pretty glamorous, but at the same time it is a very hard work; therefore only a few models are able to become top ones.
Some people believe you are more likely to win the lottery, than get into the high fashion modeling. However, there are several tips available for the one who desires to become a model. If you are female, one of the basic and common requirements in fashion modeling is age between 15 and 22. However, younger girls (closer to 15) are not likely to be given preference to. The reason is evident: modelling agencies invest time and money into someone younger because the career of any model cannot last long. The girl should also be tall, lean and long-legged.
It is a common knowledge that there have always been specific height requirements. So, the minimum height of the potential model should be about 5'9". The chances of females of 5'7" or shorter amount to "zero." According to international standards in fashion modeling, the average weight must be approximately 108-125 lbs.
Thus, girls should be young, very tall, have extremely thin bust - 32-36" (81-91 cm), waist - 22-25" (56-64 cm) and hips - 33-36" (84-91 cm). The demand for certain distinctive facial features is an on-and-off feature. However, it's not surprising that expectations and fashion modeling requirements tend to constantly change.
The mentioned characteristics are considered to be partly practical and partly aesthetic. Anyway any female should be mature, confident, and attractive. If she didn't manage to enter the world of fashion modeling, she may also try to become one of those engaged in mature modeling, which can as well be rather exciting.
Speaking about male and fashion modeling requirements, it's necessary to admit that men can start their modelling career a little bit later than women. They are good between the ages of 18 and 25 because modelling agencies wouldn't like the man to look childish. As a matter of fact, male career is known to last longer; the biz side is considered to be less competitive. The average male dimensions are the following: height between 5'11" and 6'2", weight between 140 and 165 lbs. The male should also be rather healthy and fit, mature, confident, etc.
It's impossible not to mention that keeping in line with the listed fashion modeling requirements isn't enough. To become a fashion model you will need an agent. A number of agencies (particularly large) are known to organize the so-called "open calls" for the local hopefuls. This is a kind of model search or local beauty contest with the purpose to find the next Claudia Schiffer or Naomi Campbell. Even if you don't succeed, such events are at least good opportunities for you to meet people of the fashion modeling industry.
