There are four giants of the fashion that belong to a special union called "the syndicated chamber for haute couture." They offer collections of amazing clothes for demonstration but they also have ready to wear clothing that are called designer's things, of course.

Today, fashion is a huge industry. There are different companies in the modern market that make fashionable clothes and the giants of the fashion industry are known world wide.

The history of fashion houses is long and most of them stated as small clothing or accessories' shops. And, today they have turned into international companies with thousands of employees all over the world. "Haute Couture" is a French term that is used to describe high fashion. It actually translates as high sewing but today it describes the whole process of creating fashionable clothing. But, to use "haute couture" in its name a fashion house as to be a member of the so call syndical chamber for haute couture; today it has 18 members that include such fashion giants as Coco Chanel, Christian Dior, and many other houses. There are strict regulations for getting the "haute couture" name. Inn order for a house to be labeled haute couture, the house must employ no less than fifteen people and it must represent two collections a year. Although it is hard to get this label, it isn't hard to underestimate all the advantages that it gives. The members of the syndicated chamber of haute couture sell their custom made clothing at very high prices. For example, one haute couture dress can cost as much as $100,000.

All of these collections at these special shows are custom made by fashion house designer's teams. It takes about 300 hours to make a single suit or dress. And, even though prices are very high this is a pretty small market. World wide only about 200 women wear haute couture clothes and more than half of these women are American.

But, fashion houses also make a porter clothes. They make most of their income from this portion of their business. This French term means ready to wear and fashion houses have special terms for ready-to-wear clothing designers. It is these clothing collections that are sold in stores and shops with the label of the fashion house.
