Famous Automobile Designers -- Alfred P. Sloan, Jr. and Harley Earl.

Automobile construction is a very important branch of industry for all countries, but there are not so many countries, which has this branch of industry at high level. United States, Germany, Japan, France, Italy and some other countries have powerful motor-car construction industry. But only the United States has such great automobile designers as Harley Earl and Alfred P Sloan Jr.

One of the most famous automobile designers is Harley Earl who was born in November 22, 1893. Harley was an industrial designer, engineer and automotive stylist. Earl is most famous for his working time from 1927 until 1959 at General Motors. Earl was involved in establishing the business or industry of designing cars and the principles and rules behind the profession of "Automobile Design" when none existed earlier in the United States of America.

 Harley J. Earl's list of other firsts is uniformly remarkable. They are not limited but include to being the Corvette's father, introducing the yearly change of styling model, putting the for the first time in history onboard computer in an car, wrap-around windshields, hardtops, two-tone paint and chrome trim, but probably for most of us Harley is best known to for starting the tailfin craze that was most popular styling of automobile in the 50's and early 60's of twentieth century.

It is very interesting to note that the first car designed by one of the most famous automobile designers was the La Salle 1927, a smaller Cadillac companion car. Harley's car quite compared to the Hispano-Suiza that various celebrities of Hollywood and American riches nouveaux were buying at the time, a fashion that Cadillac executives were indignant.

Another one of the most famous automobile designers is Alfred P Sloan Jr., who was born on May 23, 1875. Alfred is a long-time chairman and president of General Motors; he was born in Connecticut, New Haven. Alfred Pritchard Sloan, Jr. studied electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and graduated from there in 1892. In 1899He became machine shop president making ball bearings. In 1916 his company united with one of the biggest automobile company United Motors Corporation that in the end became part of General Motors Corporation.

Alfred Pritchard Sloan, Jr. took up the post of Vice-President, then in 1923 he was promoted to President and ultimately he has taken up a post of Chairman of the Board in 1937 of General Motors. He established the nonprofit, philanthropic Alfred P. Sloan Foundation in 1934.

General Motors under Sloan increased its popularity for managing different financial statistics operations for instance, return on investment; those methods were introduced to General Motors Corporation by Brown Donaldson, a protégé of General Motors Corporation vice-president John J. Raskob.

Thus, there are many great automobile designers, but the most famous of them are Harley J. Earl and Alfred Pritchard Sloan, Jr.
