Review of American football clubs

Added: 02/16/2006

Let's make the American football teams reviews. There are 32 arena football teams in the two conferences which are called National Football Conference and American Football Conference. Both conferences have four divisions. Most of the American football clubs have composite names, the first part o which is usually the name of the city which hosts the club; whereas the second part is the name of the animal or something else.

Until the 1960s, the most popular version of the American football game was played in colleges. The greatest NFL popularity spurt came in the 60s - 70s when it formed the union with the rival American Football League (AFL).

Nowadays, all 32 American football clubs are divided into 2 conferences (departments): NFC (National Football Conference) and AFC (American Football Conference). Both conferences are then divided into 4 divisions; those divisions have four teams each. The divisions are called South, North, West and East; the teams don't follow the geographic locations because the National Football Conference wanted to hold fixed rivalries intact.

During the regular season of the league, all American football clubs play 16 games over a period of 17 weeks, commonly from the fall beginning in September to the winter start in December. At the end of each regular season, 6 teams from NFC and AFC conferences play in the playoffs of the NFL, a tournament of single-elimination for 12 teams that culminates with the championship of the NFL called the Super Bowl. The pre-selected city holds this game. In a week, the selected players for the all-star game from both the NFC and AFC meet in the Pro Bowl that is held in Hawaii nowadays.

The National Football League season starts on the weekend after the Day of Labor. American football clubs play 16 games during the period of 17 weeks. Usually, every match is played on Sunday afternoon with the exception of one match per week, which is played on Sunday night, and another match that is played on Monday night. Recently, the American football league has started scheduling the nationally telecast games of regular season on Thursday night, that is prior to the NFL American football clubs games first Sunday to "kick-off" the new regular season. The Detroit Lions and the Dallas Cowboys each host a game on the Thanksgiving Day. For the last twenty days or so of the regular season, just after the end of the college football season, the league typically chooses some (as a rule, two or three) games that will be televised nationally on Saturday evenings or afternoons. With the Christmas 2005 falling on Sunday, the National Football League changed their typical schedule for that holiday weekend, having the natural slate of Sunday matches on the Christmas Eve day (Saturday), with two nationally broadcasted matches on Christmas Day (Sunday). That was similar to what the NFL did in 1994 with the games on the Saturday afternoon, and the primetime matches the following 2 days (Minnesota at San Francisco on Monday, Detroit at Miami on Sunday).

At the end of our American football teams review, let's take a look at the names of the most popular and successful arena football teams: Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, Denver Broncos, Cincinnati Bengals, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars, Oakland Raiders, New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tennessee Titans, and San Diego Chargers.
