There is probably no other pop artist that was as popular as Elvis Prestley singer. Even now in the new millennium he is an idol for many people all over the world. And his records are still selling very well. And of course, his music was very influential - almost all modern pop musicians admit that that they love Elvis Prestley singer songs and try to use his style in their songs. And of course, there is still huge interest to Elvis Prestley biography. There are several Elvis Prestley singer museums in the USA that tell about his life and artistic career.
The king of rock and roll was born in Mississippi in 1935 (January, 8). Elvis had a twin brother (Jesse Garon) but he was stillborn. That had a serious effect on Elvis life and music - he often said that he missed his twin brother. When Elvis was 13 years old his family moved from Mississippi to Tennessee (Memphis).
The first record of Elvis Prestley singer is dated back to 1953 at Sun Studios. In fact, Elvis himself paid $4 to make that record but then situation was going to change pretty soon. Already in 1954 Memphis radio was airing a song "Blue Moon of Kentucky". And that song became a hit right away.
In 1957, Elvis was drafted in to United States Army - by the time Elvis Prestley songs were already popular. During his service he'd been to Europe and returned in US in 1960.
After his return he experienced a slow down in his creative work - he was a little dissatisfied with his music career. But that didn't stop him from making new songs and he recorded album named "Elvis is Back". But that album was not very successful and Elvis Presley songs were not in top of charts for about 7 years.
In 1969, Elvis started his live performances again. And this time everything went great - his new song "Suspicious Minds" became a hit. In 1972, his concert "Aloha from Hawaii" was broadcasted worldwide via satellite - Elvis gathered probably the biggest audience ever.
Elvis never could eclipse his come back in 1969. In fact, if he could have retired he would have done so at the top of his game. Instead, Presley slid into the increasingly black hole of drugs and alcohol. He became a parody of himself. Gaining enormous amounts of weight, losing all interest in producing good music and ultimately dying of an overdose at the still-young-age of only 47.
But Elvis Presley is not only a singer - his acting career was also very interesting. Such movies as "Jailhouse Rock" of 1957, "King Creole" of 1958 and "Flaming Star" of 1960 with Elvis are well-known. There is also a strong belief that there is a movie with Elvis Presley that had been shot in 1955 - but that movie had never been commercially released and it is considered to be lost now.
Discography of Elvis Presley is very impressive - there are more than 120 singles from the king (and more than 20 of them were number one in different charts). And probably, there is a record about his music - there are more than 1 billion records with Elvis Presley songs sold world wide. And of course, sales are still pretty high and this number is going to grow much bigger.
There are different collections of Elvis Prestley songs being sold on CD's so if you happen not to have heard them you should definitely buy a disk.
